“Busy Hotel & Bistro - Staff can't cope”
Reviewed 8 October 2012

Sayed for 2 nights October 2012 - Restaurant and bar was packed on both nights. Ate in the restuarant on the Saturday night reservation for 9pm, at 10 pm we were still waiting to order, simply not enough staff. Staff are polite, but when the salad arrived with greenfly still attached, the restaurant should have reoved the item from the bill, they didn't and hardly an apology was muttered. Being British we didn't complain, in honesty it wouldn'tt have made much difference and the staff are rushed off their feet.

Ordered the steak tartare which was seriously dissapointing followed by the roast cod which was a little bland.

Wine list is overpriced and the house chardonnay is very poor. Order a 2nd bootler of white burgundy at £39 which in other good restaurants would of been circa £25-£28

The bar has a great atomosphere and the staff take great pride in offerring speciality beers and largers. Little too much dressing and lack of substance but top marks for effort.

Totel charges for parking. The location is fab right next to the quay front and the rooms are good. The hotel itself is a rabbit warren of rooms and corridors. Would I go back...................... probably not, sorry.

We enjoyed our stay at this chain's Poole property. Booking a special B&B deal and eating our evening meal out brought the trip within our budget. The staff were attentive and pleasant, the breakfast generous and of high quality, and the building had been tastefully converted from a wealthy Poole family's 18th century residence. As ever, our gripe is about the £10 charge for parking at Hotels du Vin, We could have shopped around and found a cheaper parking location, but don't expect to waste vacation time in this tedious way.

Stayed for a couple of days this week and really enjoyed the experience. Hotel is well placed although not easy to initially locate, or park.

Staff, restaurant and food were first class.

The room I has was large with sofa's and 2 TV's. Good sized bathroom with rain shower.

Plenty of nearby bars and restaurants.

We aim to spend each wedding anniversary at a Hotel Du Vin and this was our first one following our wedding in Bristol HdV last year. We found a parking space in the hotel car park which is quite limited. Our room was on the first floor and we had been upgraded which was a lovely surprise. Bathroom and power shower superb. The bar area was not large but there was a large downstairs snug which was a beautiful room but a little dark, however there was an outside seating area under large canvas shades which was great in the hot weather.
We did find the Bistro also a little dark and tried to be seated as near to windows as possible. The food was perfection, the double baked cheese souffle is a must , the local sourced steak and duck melted in the mouth and the chef was more than willing to give me cooking tips when I asked. The breakfast buffet was very good but I was surprised to see a dog in the Bistro at that time. Its great that the hotel welcomes dogs but I dont think the eating area should be an included. When I mentioned this to the duty manager he was a bit offhand and said that it was possibly an overseas visitor who had misunderstood. The front of house was first class and certainly knew her stuff as did the receptionist who gave helpful advice on what to see in Poole. Sadly on leaving we had a problem with the bill as the bottle of champagne included in th 'Summer' package had been charged and the evening meal had extras we didnt have. There was also a charge of £10 per night for parking which we had not been advised about and was waived.

Stayed here for a business meeting for two nights and I was extremely impressed by the hotel. The overall quality of the rooms and service was excellent. The staff were very courteous and sorted out all our requirements quickly and efficiently, from front of house, bar staff and in the restaurant. Beautiful room with dual television, Bose sound system, Nespresso coffee machine, stunning decor, I couldn't fault it.
In comparison to German hotels I normally find that UK ones do not match up, but in this case it does. I can highly recommend this hotel.

We had a wonderful two night stay. The staff were all very pleasant and made us feel more than welcome. The bedroom was very cosy and the bed sooooo comfy. It was really nice to have quality bathroom products and also the complimentary coffee machine, fab.
We had a lovely fresh cooked breakfast with a really great choice of both cooked and continental selections.
We also ate in the Bistro which had a very relaxed and warm feel to it. The food was excellent and a cheeseboard to die for.
Would return tomorrow and have no problem in recommending this hotel.
