“Lovely surroundings, wonderful breakfast!”
Reviewed 23 August 2010

Had 3 nights in this hotel. It was lovely. Room excellent, and I cant stop raving about the breakfast spread. Only negative. We had a room overlooking car park and it was a trifle noisy!!

We booked one of the Sunday special deals for a treat for our wedding anniversary. We were given a very nice room with a small terrace, and a great table at the Bistro for dinner. On arrival at the Bistro we were given a glass of champagne by Graham, the assitant Bistro manager who was very charming. He continued to look after us and presented us with a plate of petit fours at the end with Happy Anniversary on it. In fact all of the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. I can recommend two nice places nearby for lunch - the first is Dermot O Leary's new restaurant in Poole harbour called Fishy Fishy (sister one to his Brighton original); the second is WestBeach in Bournemouth, an excellent restaurant right on the promenade. We didnt drive here and it was very easy to get to/from Bournemouth by train. We took one of the many boat trips around Brownsea Island - didnt have enough time to get off and wlak around the island but would like to have done. We have stayed at many Hotel du Vin's around the country and they are leagues apart of everyone else in terms of quality, value and service.

Lovely food and atmosphere at this hotel made for a relaxing weekend stay. What a treat. The service was great from reception through to room staff, a great price too considering the amenities. Thanks I will be back

We checked into the Hotel du Vin as a stopover on our way to Cornwall to break up the trip and really wish we had stayed more nights at the Hotel du Vin. It was a wonderful nights sleep. When we arrived the concierge and reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The original room we booked was too small for the Z-bed that my daughter needed as the website only allowed us to select a "cot" for our daughter, but cots are too small for my 7-year old. They took one look at her and immediately sorted out a new room without us even having to ask!

The room was fairly spacious for a superior room and had a nice view into the harbour (albeit over their large parking lot). The bed was soft with nice cushy pillows and the bathroom was very clean. The rooms are individually styled so each stay is bound to be a surprise.

The breakfast was the standard fair you would expect with a large selection of breads, cereals, etc, and hot food was included in the price as well.

The only downside was that you had to pay an extra £8/night for parking, which I thought was a bit excessive given that you are already paying a premium for the room.

Sadly, we didn't get to try the restaurant or the wine tasting. The Hotel du Vin has a fantastic wine cellar and what looked like a fairly good menu.

I also noticed that they have a very interesting wide array of rooms available among the hotels 3 connected buildings so your best bet is to actually call the hotel first and find out what's available before booking.

Poole itself is a great location as an alternative stay to the larger and busier Bournemouth but with easy access to the entire area. if you have kids, absolutely take them to Splashdown in Poole. It's a fantastic waterpark that's about 10 minutes drive from the hotel. There's also a soft play area (which converts into laser tag in the evening) and a large 12 screen cinema in the same complex.

Our stay at Hotel du Vin in Poole was amazing. From reception, where we received a warm welcome, to the knowledgeable sommeilier, to the charming hotel manager, our contact with each staff member was extremely pleasant. Our room (La Grand Dame) was spacious and stocked with every amenity imaginable. We especially appreciated the large and beautiful bathtub after our travels, and the lovely linens.

The dinner menu offered many choices, and we were extremely satisfied with our fish dish and white wine.

The following day, after a very generous breakfast buffet, we walked around Poole's seafront, then returned for lunch on the terrace. Among the greenery of this charming terrace, we once again appreciated fine service and an excellent meal.

Excellent value! Wish we could have stayed longer! Hope to return again!

Loved this hotel, on arrival we got upgraded to a room with a slipper bath in the main bedroom and a gorgeous seperate shower room. Absolute luxury, good location for main Poole town. We didn't use the car park so I can't comment but I noticed they advertise valet parking. My only beef would have to be the price, cost about £280 for 2 nights which was on a non weekend rate and does not include breakfast, however if you are happy to take the 1 minute walk to the many nearby cafes and weatherspoons then you can purchase breakfast easily!
