Not for the first time, I am disappointed with what the UK hotels think they can get away with. At £135 a night, you get a basic B&B experience. Yes, the location is great, and yes, lots of people want to travel to the seaside if there is a surprise of a sunny weekend. Do British hotels care if these customers come back? It looks like they don't. It seems the only thing that can guarantee quality in the UK is a big name. Pity.

Sadly service very poor. Had a coffee and 2 Danish pastries, had to ask for plates, napkins and knives. Coffee only filled half a cup and hot chocolate luke warm. 5 staff behind bar did not seem able to produce the basic service to us or any other guests, let alone put a smile on their faces and offer a friendly service.

Used to work in the marina booking office and recently moved back and looked forward to revisiting what was once a first class hotel. Sad to see this is no longer the case. Whole place needs updating and staff need customer service training.

We stayed here for three nights as a mid-week break. On arrival I thought we had chosen well, the reception area and public area on the ground floor appeared to be in good order and the checking-in was efficient and the receptionist seemed friendly.

Our room was on the second floor, 205, overlooking the car park and a small section of the marina. The overall appearance was tired and in need of re-furbishing or re-decorating. The carpets would benefit from a deep clean or replacement, a lot of the finishes on the furniture surfaces are worn through. One of the dimmer switches for the bedhead lights has the knob missing. The mattress felt very very hard and it was not dissimilar to sleeping on the floor. On the floor in the knee hole of the dressing table there was, and probably still is, a pair of socks that definitely belong to a previous occupant.

In the bathroom the plating on the fittings is very worn, the water from the shower has no power behind it and the shower mixer tap tops are broken, even the door hinges are rusty. The bathroom light flickers for several minutes each time it is switched on before stabilising.

The cooked breakfast is overpriced and the portion size is quite small. The service overall was o.k., the staff were friendly enough but it did take two attempts to obtain two pillows that should have been in the room in any case.

The impression I left with is that the establishment caters for conference and reception type business more than tourists. The location is very good and with some relatively small investment in the accomodation the guest experience could be so much better.

My birthday present from my friends was a stay at Salterns - they came too, which was great fun. We had three lovely big rooms, spotlessly clean, lovely bathroom products, and bottles of water as well as hot drinks. It was nice to have a bath AND a shower - and the towels were bathsheets not the piddly little things you sometimes get in hotels. Staff were friendly, the restaurant looks out over the sea - what more could we ask?. What was even more amazing was the value. Via groupon, it cost £79 per couple for the night, which included bed, breakfast (great choice of cooked dishes as well as pastries etc) evening meal and a bottle of nice wine per room. We could have paid that for a meal out, if you include taxi fares, back home. We were very impressed. We took the ferry over to Brownsea Island next day, and walked off the food and wine.

Room Tip: All rooms are very individual, so you need to identify your needs when booking - some have two doubl...

My Mothers day gift from my family was Afternoon Tea for two at this hotel, I was very disapointed, scones were like bullets and some cake was shop bought, redeeming feature was the pot of tea was excellent. The staff were not very pleasant and after serving us we did not see anyone again not even a goodbye as we left, the Ladies toilet was a bit of a mess with paper all over the floor, they obviously were not checked very often, such a shame as I had such high expectations. the location is lovely with beautiful views over the harbour, but I would not recommend it to anyone.

Due to work committments I have stayed this Hotel every month for some time now. Normally I get a good experience. This latest time I stayed in room 203 - it must of been next to a large water tank or something, because I was kept awake by the sort of noise a loud water tank would use quuite literally all night. The bed was also aweful with the springs literally digging into me and to top it all off the breakfast was burned - charcoaled tomato, rock solid burned bacon etc. I would not be brave enough as a chief to put it on someones plate and not stupid enough as a waiter to serve it.
Very sadly, I won't put up with this, particularly when the staff think it is all normal. Clearly gone down hill and we'll stay elsewhere when we are back in Poole for business.
