Owner description: See how our volunteer crews and lifeguards are trained with a behind-the-scenes 90 minute tour of RNLI College.
Reviewed 20 December 2011

With my wife and two friends, I spent a great 90mins. seeing the training that all Lifeboat crews go through. Our guide Max explained everything and answered all our questions. It is a very impressive training facility and seems to cover everything that a Lifeboat crew member requires, except, off course the courage, they bring that themselves.
The hightlight was the Severn Class Simulator, amazing. After the 70mph winds and 3 metre swell that Max put us through we decided to give the restaurant a miss on this visit, but we will be back. If you decide to go to the College you won't be dissapointed, it's the best £6.50 you'll ever spend.

Dear Gerryatrickgolf,
Happy New Year and thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback on your tour.
I'm delighted to hear that your group enjoyed their tour of the RNLI College and managed to see first hand the home of RNLI training. Without such an asset, delivering the vital training required to keep our volunteer crews would be much more difficult and at greater cost and risk. I look forward to welcoming you back when you decide to try our Riggers Restaurant!
Best wishes for 2012.
Tim

Our group of 13 received a very warm welcome from reception and our young student guide, Max, was truly outstanding. We toured the building, visited the training and practice facilities and had an exciting trip in the very realistic lifeboat simulator. It really felt we were at sea. We were given a good insight to the RNLI organisation and were impressed by the size and scale of their operations. In particular, staggered that their costs were entirely funded by charity donations and bequests. Finally we enjoyed a splendid lunch which was excellent value for money. Very easy walking mostly indoors and we would recommend a camera. Allow half a day to include lunch.

Dear Brian B,
Happy New Year and a big thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback on your tour.

The RNLI has a duty of care to ensure our volunteer lifeboat crews are properly prepared for the difficult and dangerous work they do and with such realistic training aids such as the Sim it allows us to do this without putting them risk or with additional expense. As you found out first hand, it also gives our visitors a valuable insight into how this training is delivered.

Best wishes for 2012.

I took a group of 53 members of the local U3A on a visit to the RNLI Lifeboat College. We had an excellent lunch followed by a very interesting tour of the facilities. The college is used by the RNLI to train their volunteer crews and the tour included the restaurant, bar with a wonderful view of the inner harbour(even better if it hadn't been such a miserable day weather-wise), pool where they practise capsize drill and the simulator.

The tour gave a really good insight into the amount of training required to be a lifeboat crew member and was well worthwhile.

We visited the RNLI training college at Poole with our Probus Club members from Southampton. We were well received and guided round by a senior member of staff who gave us a thorough insite to the work of the RNLI and more specifically that of the training carried out in the college.

Following the tour we enjoyed an excellent luncheon in one of their private function rooms. They have also a attractive self-service restaurant open all day to the public and a comfortable bar,- the whole area overlooking Poole Bay and Harbour.

At £18 a head for the whole visit including tour and luncheon.
