A big thank you for the most interesting and informative tour of the RNLI college. Really enjoyed the experience and our excellent and knowledgeable tour guide Angela Davies made it a memorable afternoon, we loved the simulator and all the useful facts that Angela shared with us. Also can recommend the Slipway bar.

Being a member and supporter of the RNLI and living inland it was a great opportunity during our weeks holiday in Swanage to go and visit the College and great first hand look at how things are done at the College in Poole.
We had booked our tour in advance which you must do to ensure you get in.
We arrived early and were able to have coffee in the Slipway bar which was very good indeed with beautiful views out into Poole harbour.
Our guide Paul Higgs was very good indeed - he was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the RNLI and the College and made our tour as it says in the title a great Discovery.
We got to see the simulator of a boat going out to sea and some of the group even got to have a go at steering. We saw the massive indoor pool where they practice capsizing etc etc and were even lucky enough to see a live capsize.
The tour took about 90mins but was crammed with very useful facts and information.
We saw the restaurant which looked very inviting and it is open to the public.
The shop was well stocked with souvenirs.
A thoroughly interesting tour and well worth the £7.50 fee.
Thank you.

We travelled as a coach party of 45, pre-booked, so the college was prepared with lots of excellent guides for groups of 15 to enjoy the 90 minute tour in comfort. The college charges for groups but this is far from excessive and as the money is put to good use is more than acceptable. I feel sure that everyone who visits will learn that there is much more to the RNLI than you previously imagined. The rooms available as hotel stay are of an excellent standard and the restaurant faclilities have wonderful views and interesting talking points in the building construction to enjoy. The staff are rightly proud of this amenity so go along and see something different on your holiday this year.

Really helped to understand what the RNLI does, and the bravery and dedication of its volunteers. Our guide was good, but it seemed that he was working to a script, and when questions were posed did not have an in depth background of knowledge. Of course a script does make sure nothing gets forgotten. The lifeboat experience was fantastic, and the deep pool interesting. The whole experience was well worth the money, and I think it is free when you stay at the Hotel.

Dear Canonjones,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review on our Tripadvisor page.

Our guides do not work to a script as such however, they do have core information which they are asked to inform our visitors about during the tour. This helps to ensure that everyone receives the same key messages about the RNLI and the training which takes place.

The tour is free of charge for residents at the College which makes it a great added bonus!

We hope to welcome you back to the RNLI College in the future.

Best wishes

I learned a lot about the work of the RNLI thanks to our very good volunteer guide and it was free admission as well. Lasted around 90 minutes and the highlights were the Lifeboat simulator where one lady had to leave as she was feeling sea sick and the large tank where there do their water training. Well worth going.

Hi Andrew,

Thank you very much for your recent feedback. We are pleased that the tour was informative and you learnt a lot about the RNLI during your time spent with us.

The Lifeboat Bridge Simulator is always very popular with our visitors, it sometimes can cause sea sickness which is unfortunate. We normally advise people to close their eyes or look down if this does happen!

We hope to be able to welcome you back to the RNLI College in the future.

Best wishes
