“A must when in Poole”
Reviewed 6 March 2012

This is a beautiful place to visit. Run by the National Trust you can easily occupy a full day on the is leans, which offers various walks as well as some beach area (although limited). However there is plenty of open space to enjoy picnics and games.

Accessible via boat from either Poole Harbour or Sandbanks, the trip over is worth the effort even if you didn't get off. However, it is the island that is the star of the show. If you are lucky you might also see the native red squirrel as well as plenty of peacocks.

Definitely a 'must do' place when in Dorset.

“paradise island”
Reviewed 29 February 2012

Have visited this island many times and always enjoyed it.IT is best to go on a calm day though as the ferry from poole key can get a bit choppy if it is windy. brownsea is one of the few places left where you can still see the BROWN SQUIRELL so keep a look out 'there are lovley views from the island looking one way across to the Purbecks the other Sandbanks Peninsular and poole harbour. There is a small cafe come restaurant on the island so you do not have to lug food with u .would advise wear good walking shoes as u can walk nearly all round the island if desirerd. There is a spot on the island with a plaque where the Scout movment wasfounded worth a look. ENJOY SPEEDIAN.........

“A lovely day out!”
Reviewed 27 February 2012

We took the very quick ferry trip from Sandbanks (ferry from Poole Harbour during summer months as well), to this lovely island. Very reasonably priced (you only pay for the ferry not admittance to the Island if you're a member of the National Trust). Beautiful walks around the Island, all marked on maps with times and distances. The Island is home to the Red Squirrel and we spotted several during our visit. Lots of open spaces ideal for families and picnics but there's also a lovely cafe with seating inside and out - with spectacular views. Watch out for the very cheeky Peacocks which will try to pinch food off your table! Ferries run every half hour so it's quite flexible too.

“Lovely place to visit”
Reviewed 23 February 2012

It was great to see the red squirels running around & to see the place where the first scout camp took place. Not so great is the cost of the ferry to get you there - on a cost per mile basis, probably more expensive than Concorde.
