Staff very friendly and knowledgable about the area. Food delicious. Parking around the back. Room lovely and clean and the bathroom was done tastefully and to a high standard. Very good stay.

“Yet another local "Rip-off!"”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

At last a bar tariff is on display...........however not only is it inaccurate but you need to stand behind the bar & be at least 6 feet tall to read it!

The wine list is very mediocre & overpriced plus the beer prices are now extortionate for the products offered............£3.90 for a pint of cask ale with an acohol content of 4.2%.

Having ordered a pint, of "Timothy Taylor's Landlord" what was offered was a lot of froth on the top of the unlined glass. After asking "How much?" £3.90 was requested, I said "Yes' for a pint but how much for this glass?".You can imagine the rest of the story!

The pub obviously does not know what a pint consists of.......!

It is time that the local weights & measures people paid a visit, perhaps after the owners retrain
or replace the current manager & staff.

Needless to say my friends & I will not be patronising this down market "pub" again. We would rather pay extra for a more welcoming & friendly atmosphere with better quality & value for money...

“Food excellent but not the service”
Reviewed 12 May 2014

I have now eaten at The Ox three times since Christmas. First experience was amazing with food and service both excellent. However the last two times I've been there, whilst the food is very very good, the service is incredibly slow. Even when we complained about the service, there was no apology. The wait between having our drinks and ordering our food was too long and the wait between each course got ridiculous. We even had to ask for the bill twice. There didn't seem to be a shortage of staff and the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. Having had a very positive experience first time round, we gave them the benefit of the doubt last time, but there does seem to be a definite trend.

You can't fault the food at the Ox but somehow they haven't got the service quite right which is a shame because it's a very nice restaurant. Hopefully the management will take note.
