Having read previous reviews we were a little apprehensive about our visit but we need not have worried. We were on a shopping trip so only required a basic room for the night for £29.95 for 2 people we got just that we had a clean room with a comfortable bed, free wifi, tea and coffee and lots of piping hot water and free parking what else do you want ?
The Holiday Inn it is not and does need refurbishing particularly the bedroom furniture and bathroom I would not use it for a holiday but it is what it is and does the job,

We booked the hotel for my father in law who was coming to visit. Having used the hotel before he was more than happy to stay there.
Unfortunately the place has really gone down hill.
The room was dirty. The window was screwed shut and as it was a hot night and there was no air conditioning it made it very uncomfortable.
If you just want a bed and aren't fussy at all about the room then it's probably suitable but personally I would rather pay a little bit more and stay in the travelodge or premier inn at Morton park.

Our group visited Darlington by train for A4 Pacifics celebration so needed a value for money overnight stop. Much in need of refurbishment but provided basics - reasonably clean; a pub next door for a drink and evening meal. Pleasant staff. I would go there again.

Room Tip: On a trafficked road but it didn't bother me. There are rooms that face away.

Stopped for one night on the way north, because it was handy for the A1 and accepted dogs. Cracked toilet and sink in the en suite, not very clean either. Room was a good size and although close to a main road, was quiet. Would not recommend or stay here again.

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel

Gives the appearance of a very very old Travelodge, the room was not particularly clean, the curtains were torn, you could not close the window, making it very noisy with the traffic from the main road. There was a constant banging from doors around the building as none had door closures or dampers on them, our bath was full of mould around the edge and the toilet rim has not been cleaned for months and was black with grime. The bed was ok though it creaked at the slightest movement and when you got in it you wondered if it would hold up or collapse. All the " faults" in our room ( 106 ) are very easily rectified with a bit of tlc and minor expense which makes it a shame as first impressions last and we will not be going back. We could have stayed at Travelodge or similar a lot cheaper and may be that's my advice to us and others in future.

Room Tip: are there any?

After all the negative reviews, I was very surprised to find this hotel is a lot better than we expected,

The hotel is joined onto a sizzling pub, you don't hear any noise for the pub at all,
The hotel is very clean,
Yes the furniture might be a little dated but I have stayed in more run down hotels,
The staff are very polite and go out of their way to help,

We stayed in room 308 on Friday the 18th April till Sunday the 20th April, for the price we payed it was worth every penny,

You can purchase breakfast for £2.50 each day per person,
You get toast, cereal ie cornflakes, or weatabicks, tea coffee and orange juice,
It is only a 5 minutes drive into Darlington town center,
