We stayed over easter the room was adequate, clean and tidy but bathroom needed bath panel fixing. The bed was' nt that comfortable. The restaurants menu needed variation as you had the same choice every night there was a couple of coach parties and a wedding on the saturday night and you had to wait ages for drinks in bar as only one bar (although there's two) was open with 1 member of staff doing his best.I left my phone charger it took 4 phone calls payment for postage and 2 weeks to receive it them it was sent to wrpng address and it wasn't even mine. Staff training possibly.

We had our wedding here and everything was perfect. We cannot praise Blackwell Hotel enough, nothing was too much trouble. All of our guests commented on the lovely hotel, friendly staff & the wonderful food. When we first met with Deborah to look around she put us at ease & explained that we could adapt the packages to suit us. She was so helpful & supportive & we cannot Thank her enough. On the day we had the support of Margaret who made sure that everything ran smoothly. We stayed for the Easter Sunday lunch the next day & it was the little extra touches she did that made this special too...the table had a 'Happy Easter' sign with our married name on & I even got a Easter egg off the Easter bunny. We had a few Sunday lunches at the hotel before the wedding and we will defiantly be coming back for more as they are lovely & such good value. We also used the on site hairdresser Suzanne & she was really good, listened to what myself & the bridesmaids wanted & she did a fantastic job.The hotel does need a bit of TLC but the staff are so helpful & friendly and it is this service that makes the hotel a lovely place to visit.

After coming to this hotel for many years this year's visit was a let down. To be fair the staff were lovely, especially Head Receptionist Karen, who went out of her way to help us. Sadly the hotel is very tired and the previous owners stripped the place and left the new owners with a great deal of work. It is a beautiful house set in wonderful parkland in close proximity to the town centre and its' amenities. Apart from the tiredness of the rooms and the building, the biggest let down was the breakfast. It felt like you were entering a factory canteen. It was totally self service, which made it difficult for my elderly parents especially as my father uses a walking stick. going backwards and forwards to the table for drinks, toast etc is not great. Cleanliness was not top of the list and mouldy bread to make your own toast isn't great. The hot buffet was not hot, nor was it topped up. I may be being "picky" here but I do not enjoy the local radio station being blurred out at top whack on a Sunday morning. Other guests also compained about this. To be fair, the management were great when I discussed this with them and given time, there will no doubt be improvements as the new owners are already spending money on the building.

The room is still good, especially size of both room and bed. The location can't be faulted. The view of the hotel, from outwith, is superb.
The latest staff are relatively poor with training required(reception and bar). Of course, I could've caught them on a "bad day"(small joke here)

After reading reviews I was dreading the stay. It seems I was lucky as I put in one of the new rooms in the north wing. It was clean and up to date with new bathroom. There was plenty of wardrobe space. The one thing that lets is the cheap beds. Hard mattress on a cheap divan that moves on their castors when you get on it. The breakfast is a hot buffet with cereals, fruit and toast available. The evening meal we had was excellent even though service was slow. The bar staff and reception were friendly with a well stocked bar. Location is a bit out of town but taxis only cost £4 to get to town. A hotel I would come back to but ask for new rooms.

Stayed on a 2 night break prior to Easter to go walking around Aysgarth Falls. As with other reviews, once you look past the tired decor the hotel is a gem. Nice size rooms that are clean and functional, lovely grounds and the food is superb - both evening meal and breakfast. The staff are all cheerful and attentive. You have to remember it is a 17th century building and whilst yes the carpet and decor could be updated it is still a well run and very clean hotel. If you want modern, then I would suggest the Holiday Inn at Scotch Corner.

I met up with my friend who lives near Darlington whilst I was traveling back to the south coast from Scotland. I had up graded us to a wonderful large room in the main house above reception. It was light and very warm and we were able to keep an eye on the car in the front car park. We were on a special offer pre-Easter break that included an afternoon tea on arrival and hot cross buns. We sat in the large lounge area under the grand staircase, and felt very special. The Staff are all wonderful, friendly and helpful whilst at the same time being very professional. The Restaurant food is very good, the medley of fish dish was very good indeed. I will look on the internet again to see if they have any more good offers later in the year. Ps we met up at Bannatynes in Darlington last year and the Blackwell Grange has the upper hand in my view. Many thanks to all the staff. good luck with the baby to the young lady in Reception.
