I have to say, the staff, and restaurant were excellent, the rooms and carpets could do with an upgrade, but everything is very clean, beds are comfy and the shower great. Plus use of the pool as a guest

We held our wedding at Blackwell on 2nd May, it was a perfect day for Marie and I thanks to the staff at the hotel. From originally booking the venue a year ago, up to our wedding day the wedding co ordinator was in touch regularly checking how plans were going. On the big day everything went like clockwork and a great time was had by all, nothing was a problem for any of the staff. A big thank you especially to Debs and Margaret from Marie and Dave Quickmire.

From the moment we entered and were greeted by a tremendous friendly welcome to the cleanliness of the room, excellent food, and attentive friendly staff our short break was a pleasure. The hotel is situated in lovely grounds and close to all major road links. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone. A big thank you to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

If you want to discover Durham and the surrounding areas you couldn't find a better place. It's in a rural setting which makes it quiet and peaceful, yet it's close to major road links. Our room (331) was clean, warm and well kept. The bathroom was clean and modern. There was a toilet in ours with a shower above the bath which worked perfectly. For dinner there is a good choice at a reasonable price. Breakfast is comprehensive with everything you could wish for. A full English or Continental. Buffet style so you can decide what you want. All the staff are friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. We were too tired after sightseeing to use the gym, steam room or pool,(we optimistically packed our swimwear !) but we looked in and it seemed OK. We were only here for two nights so we need to come again for longer, as there is so much to see and do.

Room Tip: Room 331 is in an extension to the main building. It's on the third floor overlooking the garden...

Staying here on a regular weekly basis for approx twelve months I always found the service to be a consistent high standard.
Rooms are always clean and pleaseant, use of the Spa with the swimming pool, Sauna and Gym being equipped to a.good standard offered an opportunity to exercise each evening.
Easy travelling distance of all amenities and town centre however being set in Parkland ensures a quiet with the hotel also offering an outside seating area for drinks and meals in summer.
On each visit all of the staff could not have been more helpful and really are the differentiator between the Grange and other hotels in the area.

Room Tip: Cottage Rooms are the best

We had booked this break with Groupon, it turned out to be a very good deal. Our room was small but then we weren't paying the full rate so not likely to be given the best room. The decor was clean and well kept though the carpet could have done with a clean. Nicely furnished and everything worked. Bathroom clean and reasonably modern. If there was any real complaints about the room then the pillows weren't great but then on a personal level we do like really fluffy pillows.

Restaurant food and the bar food was excellent. Good choice and quality.

The was a leisure centre and a pool but I can make no comment as we didn't use the facilities.

The staff were warm and friendly and very helpful. All in all a good break, happy to recommend this charming hotel.
