“Weekend, dead quiet!”
Reviewed 8 September 2011

This former Officer's Mess has been superbly refurbished and is a three star luxury hotel, and our room was dual aspect, large and with too many extras to mention them all! The hotel has some very interesting and poignant history attached to it. We stayed Friday to Monday with a coach tour and it was incredibly quiet until Monday morning, when the airfield sprang into life again.

Without exception the staff were always bright and cheerful, from the management down, helpful, interested and never a bored face! The food and choices thereof were excellent and plentiful, with some help yourself choices for good measure.

We certainly hope to stay there again and would highly recommend it to any of our friends and family.

Room Tip: Room number 73 is dual aspect with a bath but no shower at present. Lovely deep drawers! No lift bu...

For the past 4 days my friend and I stayed at The George. We knew it was a three star but hygiene is a must.

As soon as we walked in it smelled musty like a mueseum. We went up to our room and found dirty towels in our bathroom. We requested clean ones and were promptly brought up. There was hair over the bath and floor. The edges of the bath were black. Smelt like a swimming pool shower. Lights didn't work, and were covered in cobwebs. Got out of the shower and walked on the carpet just to go back into the shower to wash my feet again! Wallpaper hanging off the wall.

Food was bland. Drinks expensive. Most of the staff are friendly.

Was served at reception by a sour-faced woman. Service with a smile does make a difference. Got into an argument with her over 40p. She short changed me, and refused to give me my forty pence. After making it clear I wasn't leaving without my money, she shook her head and tutted, calling me stupid. Always count your change. Told her giving me the right change was the least she could do after staying in a disgusting room.

One hall which leads to Spitfire (smoking room) absolutely stinks. Try to avoid at all cost. Most unpleasant stay, complete squalor. Only reason it is next to an airport is so people going on holiday can get far away from it. Out of 10. 0 1/2

Elderly or disabled people should avoid as there is no porter or lift. Don't be afraid to push the boat out.

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel

This is an Ex Officers Mess with reasonable rooms.

It is quiet and clean.

The bar food is good and at a fair price. Scampi and chips with Good (not over cooked) fresh peas always a winner in my book.

Staff are friendly and nothing is to much trouble.

Down side is the place needs a make over rooms are old and bathrooms need a revamp.

Beds also need replacing but ok for a one night stop before flying away.

Internet is not included in the room rate a real negative for the hotel.

But of £9.99 you can get connected for 24 Hours

Overall good.

Stayed here on coach trip, very quiet , good food very friendly staff, new posh decor with thick carpets even !!! Just a little isolated no shops but if your flying in or out highly recommended better than a chain hotel with some nice little extras

Stayed one night on way back from a hiking trip-Good reception lady at night-arrived quite late, after 9:30-room was quiet and decent, rather old style-big bath-no AC, but a fan was provided (this was a hot summer in the UK) and that helped. No airport noise.
Breakfast was odd-no one sugguesting where to sit or how the buffet operates. Someone should be around to pour your coffee and speak with you briefly. Pretty good selection if bland.
Parking was ample-just had to lug a small case upstairs to first floor. The big one was locked in the car-dropped car rental and walked to hanger-nice airport, nice people-hope to return-

Staff are very friendly and really helpful, people who have slated this hotel obviously have champagne tates but only want to spend lemonade money. Rooms were very comfortable, hotel was quiet and breakfast was however you wanted it. Would definitely stay again

This a perfectly reasonable hotel for the price. We paid £55 for a double room and breakfast (which was good quality and plentiful).

The place is a little tired and the bedroom was a little small. It was well equipped however.

We had an evening meal in the bar - this was ok and pretty reasonably priced.

All in all we would go back - a pleasent experience at a decent price.
