We visited the Star of Bengal Thursday Dec 21st, party of 7, incl a 4year old. We have eaten in restaurant on and off over last 20yrs. It was always our #1 choice for an Indian when we lived in North East over 15yrs ago.
Restaurant can be tricky to find if you don’t know Darlington, however there is ample free parking on street and public car park very close.
Restaurant itself hasn’t changed much over the years, small inside and basic decor, but comfortable.
Service was second to none, professional, polite and efficient, tending to all our needs. Portions are massive, somewhat over whelming. My only complaint is maybe a little over sweet! Food was hot on hot plates. Although large portions, food lacked passion, that wow factor and was just average. Hence only 4⭐️here, nothing like their 5⭐️many years ago. However, they spoilt the 4yr old and special dietary needs of our Australian family visiting for family wedding.
To sum up:
Cost: £115 for seven diners incl, beers, soft drinks, pops+ Pickles, starters, mains, rice and mans, coffee to finish.
Excellent attentive service, large portions, value for money. Very accommodating.
Would recommend and will return.
Thankyou all at Star of Bengal.
