On arriving here in the car park we were met with a young chef also walking across the car park dressed in chef whites and dangling headphones. After a slight wait we advised of our booking which was for a family of 5 plus a toddler. We were told to pick our own table and they would fetch us a highchair. We sat down to a sticky table and the toddler was placed in the highchair( after we had cleaned it down with baby wipes).
Service was extremely slow compared to previous visits here. Portion sizes are not particularly good value for money. And as other reviewers have pointed out the vegetables were undercooked.
The steak pie seemed to be collapsible pastry with very little content. Another of our party ordered the lamb which contained no meat just fat and gristle. We did complain and was offered a free dessert.
We have been here a few times and there is a major problem of consistency of both service and food quality.
Won't be coming back again.

A group of us often come here for lunch with our babies as it's a convenient location and reasonable prices. We have always been made to feel welcome despite us arriving with all our baby clutter. Service today was cheery and helpful, we sat outside and the waitresses bought everything out to us and checked we were ok and we're very pleasant. Food isn't world class outstanding but it is pretty tasty and portions have always been fine. Today had the bacon and Brie roll and it was very nice indeed, well filled. My friends also enjoyed their lunches. The churros is also delicious.

“2nd bad experience, and the last.”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

After having one poor experience we decided to give the Tawney Owl another try. Sunday lunch for a family of 4 was served barely warm. We asked for the food to be heated and it was returned at a decent temperature. We then discovered that around 30% of the food was hard and inedible. My complaint at this point was ignored. At the end of the meal the waiter asked if we had enjoyed the food and my response was "no", at which the waiter responded "Was it Ok apart form the hard veg?". At this point I was speechless. Full recognition that the food was poor, no apology, nothing. We certainly won't be back!

“Family Lunch”
Reviewed 5 May 2014 via mobile

We chose to have lunch at the Tawny Owl for a family meal and there were 8 in our party. We found a large table that seated us all round perfectly in its own little private area. We didn't have to wait long until a waiter came along to take our orders and the meals were served quickly. We all had 2 courses and all really enjoyed our meals. A couple of the portion sizes were a little small maybe a few more chips/vegetables would have been nice especially for the men with larger appetites!! The Tawny Owl is a lovely spacious country pub/restaurant. I have eaten here a few times and have always enjoyed it. Will defo visit again sometime when in the area.
