“Okay for one night only”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2008

When we arrived at the hotel there was no one on reception; another guest told us to try the restaurant. We waited there for ages before having to knock on the kitchen door to get any attention. Although we were then given our room keys the service could not have been more surly. When we went to the restaurant for dinner we discovered there was only two staff members in the entire hotel and one of them was the chef! The room was quite clean although when I got up for our very early flight there was an earwig and silverfish in the bathroom! Also there are no hairdriers in the room. We were supposed to get a packed breakfast which didn't materialise as we were leaving too early for the buffet brekkie.

I guess it was okay for one night and fairly cheap when you take into account we left our car for the duration, however for service it was pretty terrible. Very handy for the airport and the night porter took us over for our flight.

Where do I start, We my wife my 10 year old son and I departed Teeside Airport at 7am on Sunday 10th Feb 2008.

Becourse checkin opened at 5am and we were traveling from York we did'nt fancy getting up at 3am and the long drive to the airport; So booked in for one night and left the car for the week.

The hotel it's self is Ok, clean with good room facilities and a nice bar. However, now for the downside.

Yes the hotel is only 400M from the terminal building But they don't mension the Airport Security Fence that is in between. In reality it is a 1.25 mile walk through an industrial estate to get to the terminal building; I clocked it in the car when I was forced to drive my familly and suit cases at 4-30am to the terminal, before driving back to the hotel to park up and then spend the next 25 mins walking back to the airport.

They Do Not Serve Any Food Before 7am.

There is No 24hr Room Service.

There are NO Transfers to of from the Terminal Building of any kind you have TO WALK .

Becourse of the nature and location of the parking we did wonder if the car would still be their when we got back; luckily it was.

We recomend the St George Hotel. This is actualy owned by the airport and has it's OWN PRIVATE GATE to the terminal which is LESS THAN 5 mins Walk

When we stepped through the door of the Spa Hotel the smell of stale smoke just hit you.We had booked a double room and the room we were given was more of a single room with a double bed squeezed in.Although the sheets were clean the bed spread looked like it needed a good wash. The room felt damp and the bathroom had black mould on the walls and ceiling. All rooms are on the ground floor, our room over looked the carpark, we had to keep the curtains closed, cars could park in front of our room window. This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.By car the retail park is fifteen minutes drive away, Darlington town centre is fifteen minutes in the other direction

If you are travelling from Durham Tees Aiport and need somewhere to stay and or park your car, I can recommend the Spa Hotel.
We were travelling off to Ireland early morning and so booked to stay in the Spa for one night . We found the hotel easily as its about 500 yards from the car park in the airport. (just a couple of minutes walk). It's a small hotel but the twin room we stayed in was clean, spacious and recently refurbished. The staff were very helpful and friendly .
We ate an evening meal there which consisted of a shared portion of potato skins then a main course each. The food was very nice and the portions were huge. Average cost of meal was around £7 a head.
The breakfast was continental but that suited us as there was plenty of cereals to chose from. (all the good brands as well). There was toast, fruit juice and the usual tea/coffee etc which were made fresh as we sat down.
The extra boost to all this was the free parking for up to 15 days, this would have cost about £50 if we had used the airport parking. All this for £34.50 per head.- What a bargain.
You can just arrange with the hotel to park your car there for around £3 per day if you don't need an overnight stay.
I would certainly use this hotel again when travelling from this airport.
I should just like to say thank you again for a great start to my holiday
