An expensive B+B in a small town. Looks OK and first impressions fine, BUT,- there is a constant whine noise- electrical motor of some sort that woke me at 0415 and I could not get back to sleep. The single room I was in fronted to the main road, but was over the bar with not much sound insulation, so that conversations, laughter and the piped music came through until rather late. Visitors should bring their own shower gel as the small sachet of shampoo and conditioner does not make for a good shower gel. Food was reasonable, as well as the freshly-cooked breakfast. Pleasant staff. Free wi-fi available.

Room Tip: don't bother with room 3

I arrived to find that I had probably the smallest single room there was and despite not being full there was no offer of an upgrade, there was no bedside lamp and the main light was dim.
The bath has seen better days with part of the enamel missing, the provided toiletries were poor. I wanted a bath but the boiler only managed 3 inches of hot water before it then ran cold.
The food was of a reasonable quality and the service acceptable, but again the lighting is very dull and dingy.
My biggest disappointment was to be woken at 6.15 by the noise from the washing machine and tumble dryer which was sited in the room next to mine.
All in all the hotel needs some upgrading and the basics sorting out.

Room Tip: Don't accept a single room

The rooms are very dated but they have lovely new doors. Money would have been better spent on fixing the broken loo seat, buying a bed side lamp, replacing dusty covers, a net curtain to save neighbours looking directly into bedroom and toilet. Staff not that friendly and breakfast was gross!!

The owner and staff were very friendly and phoned a taxi when we went out in the evening. The breakfast was cooked to order so was lovely and fresh. Our daughter asked for boiled eggs which they made even though they were not on the menu! The room was clean and cosy. A refreshing change from the chain hotels. We had an iron and ironing board in the room which came in useful! The fixture on the shower however was broken and the temperature would not stay constant. We enjoyed our stay and would definately recommend it.

We never stayed here but just called in for a meal while visiting my daughter and her boyfriend and we were quite frankly staggered by the quality of the food. We all ate different dish's and each one was absolutely perfect. I am amazed at how this place can produce such high quality food for the same amount you would pay for "Ping cuisine" somewhere else. The bread and butter pudding with chocolate and raspberry sauce was....ahh you have to try it! It has restored my jaded faith in eating out...ok my grammer may not be very good....but the food here is. Even the gravey was...and the custard.....ahh it was all mouth watering. My only complaint is I live in Bristol, so its a hell of a long way to go for a good nosh up! The service was very good as well. Very, very, good place to eat...but dont tell everyone. Just tell enough so it never has to close!

We stopped here for Sunday lunch at the recommendation of our nephew. What a fantastic place. The venue was well laid out and beautifully presented. They slotted 5 of us in at the beginning of lunch, even though fully booked, and served a fantastic meal. Their slow roast belly pork was not on the menu but was recommended - we asked for it and got it. Everything about our experience here was great, service, food, great portions, value etc. The belly pork was to die for and I would say it is a 'must' for anyone who likes pork. At £8.95 the lunch was one of the best I have ever had (we even had to take a doggie bag home!). We will go back again and try out the hotel as well.

Several years since we ate at The Mews, so when we thought we would try it again,we took advice of website & booked a table for a Sunday evening. The place was VERY quiet when we arrived ( 2 customers and 3 staff in the bar). We were shown to a table in the bar & left without a menu. After 15-20 minutes a waitress asked if we had made our choice. Pointed out we had no menu, only to be told it was bar meals only. This was not pointed out when I booked, nor is it advised on the website, which has a great menu, which was why I booked!!! We were the ONLY people eating there, and really had the feeling we were on display. The food was reasonable, but NOTHING like the website menu, so I really feel the night was spoiled for us. If we ever go again (and it's doubtful) it will be for a lunchtime bar snack only
