Hemsworth Water Park and Playworld
Ranked #16 of 49 things to do in Wakefield
Attraction details
Reviewed 18 August 2014

We visited here because we believed it was a 'water park'. It came up under 'beaches in Google search.

Upon arriving we were sorely disappointed, having packed swimming costumes and items for a day by the water...

Parking was £3.

There are lakes with some sand on the edges. No swimming is permitted.

The free park is very poor and someone had their dog in the park despite a clearly displayed 'No DOGS allowed'.

The bigger park 'Playworld' cost £3 for kids with under 2's free. Being somewhat disappointed already we avoided this park.

Instead we opted for the Indoor Play Area which costs £1 per child. Next we did the boats for £1 per person and the kids did the Bouncy Castle £1 for 10mins. (Since it was more or less dead, we were on the boats for over and hour and the kids used the bouncy castle for 30mins approximately).

The reason I gave 2 stars is because the name 'Waterpark' suggests something more than lakes.

The people were friendly and the area was nice, but not what we expected.

My sons (aged 10, 6 and 2) and I have enjoyed a great day at Hemsworth Water Park with friends. We visited the play area, watched the ducks, enjoyed a drink in the café, and the pedalos, followed by a treat from the ice cream van. The toilets were clean and rubbish bins were available to dispose of the rubbish from our picnic. Everywhere we went was clean and tidy. We spent about 4 1/2 hours here and could've spent longer if we had gone into Playworld and on the Miniature Train.

I have always loved coming to Hemsworth water park since I was a kid & recently it's looking run down with old signs still up for last 20 years that u can't barely see to read and it's a shame the facility's aren't open longer in the evenings, but it's still nice to come down and feed the ducks as I usually visit quite often with family & friends also the cafe is nice but too pricey for the area.

We visited at approx 3pm on a bank holiday Monday. It was suprisingly quiet, there were no car parking fees and plenty of space. Having a 4yr old we headed streight to the play area. We had to pay £3 for my daughter and on entry we were a little disappointed however, as you walk around there's a little more than you 1st see. My daughter Loved it. The staff patrolled the play area keeping it clean and were happy to stop for a chat. I can imagine this being a whole other story when it is the hight of the summer holidays!

A lovely walk and playworld for the kids. £2 to park, £2.50 for the Playworld which is pricey but it is very good after all. They have a really nice cafe if your feeling hungry. We're definetely coming back here.
