Having JUST got back from an excellent long weekend at Somerset Spa and reading some of the reviews here, I felt I should write mine up sharpish! We were a group of 16, staying for my sister's 30th birthday.

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome and the owner couldn't have been
more friendly or helpful.

On Friday night, we made full use of the bar, though this is unfortunately only open on Fridays, it was like having our very own local within stumbling distance!

Saturday was clay pigeon shooting and various treatments, manicures, massages etc. and on the whole this was well organised. We even made good use of the hottub and sauna.

Sunday was a lovely walk in the fantastic weather to an excellent local for lunch.

The accommodation was really lovely and I think a lot of the criticisms have been really unfair. As owner Liz rightly says, the venue is not advertised as child-friendly, it's your choice if you wish to take that risk. I personally think it's a great place for kids to roam about and Tess, the owners border collie is just really happy to have new friends to play with.

Anyway, enough rambling, but overall a thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing and very fun weekend. Thanks to Liz and her family.

We had my hen party here on the bank holiday weekend at the end of May. After hours of travelling to Taunton, we were not dissappointed to find the most beautiful luxury cottages were fully equipped with all we needed and we could relax and wind down with a glass of wine in the onsite bar! We hired the Old Mill and Granary for 16 people, and the accomodation was split into two cottages. Both were impeccably clean and had large spacious living areas, fully equipped kitchens and beautiful bedrooms all made up and very inticing. We had an all party dinner on the first night, where all 16 of us perfectly fitted around the Granary dinning table and we were ready to while the nite away. On Saturday we had the exclusive use of the indoor hot tub, sauna and we also used the beauty therapy room and set up our own nail bar using the table and equipment which Liz at Somerset had left in the room. It was brilliant, we spent the day pampering our selves and getting ready for a night on the town. The cottages are only a short distance from Taunton and so a taxi for 8 (2 x 8 minibus) to get us in to Taunton was only £22 for each car, each way. Bargain - there are some fun bars in taunton but I will let you discover those. Then on the Sunday, what could be better than using the beautiful surroundings and amazing dinning areas, than to have a mad hatters tea party. It was amazing - I was evicted to the Old Mill with a couple of the hens, meanwhile the Granary was being transformed into Wonderland!!! We all loved the venue so much and are already talking about when we could go back, with family and friends, or just a reunion. 4 days here is perfect and we really could have stayed much longer. thanks to the bar man for being so understanding with 16 tipsy girls in the bar all at once, and Liz for being flexible with the Sauna - our Liz really appreciated that she could use it for the extended time and we all had an absolutely amazing time. Hope to visit again really soon. This would be a great place to spend Christmas and New Year....

We stayed with 16 adults and 10 small children for a week. The site has unrestricted access to a river, which does not make for the most relaxing times in the garden. The steps to some of the bedrooms are very very steep and if you fill the house then one family will have to walk through another's bedroom to get to bed. The floorboards creak if you even look at them and some of the beds have really old mattresses. There was not a lot of sleeping going on.

The shower drips into the kitchen. When we mentioned it to the landlady she said that it wasn't a problem...I agree with the previous negative reviews of the landlady - she repeatedly allowed her dog in our garden even though it scared the children and we kept asking her to keep it under control. They have a sign on the gate saying 'our dogs bite' - fortunately the kids can't read. As with a previous comment, one evening there was no hot water.

Room Tip: Don't get the loft rooms.

This property is not advertised as being suitable for small children. There is a small stream at the bottom of the garden and other guests have enjoyed this. You may not have stayed in an old country house before, where step sizes vary. This house is a listed building and this has not been a problem in the past.
All the matresses are new, within the last two years. We noted the leaking shower which has been repaired. We did not wish to carry out repairs while the property was occupied. The dog referred to is actually a six month old border collie puppy. Our advice is to not stay in a country house as it will not be the same as a new house.
Unfortunately an item was stolen from the property by this group and had to be replaced. The fact that you can make a complaint is astonishing.

Poorly furnished- lots of cheap orange pine, fake leather sofas and cheap prints in clip frames- not a period feature or a design classic in sight. Musty smell of stale smoke. Cobwebs. Average rural setting- not exactly beautiful and steady drone of the nearby A road. Note that there are 3 rental properties and the owner's home adjacent- so peace, privacy and seclusion not guaranteed.

All sofas are genuine leather and there is no cheap furniture or cheap prints. All properties are non smoking. This is beautiful idyllic setting with the nearest main road 2 miles away. Peace, seclusion and privacy are guaranteed at this beautiful listed property. Unfortunately an item was stolen from the property by this group and had to be replaced. The fact that you are making a complaint is astonishing.

What a lovely venue for a hen party - the seven of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here. We didn't have to venture far to use the facilities (the spa was literally outside the back door) and was roomy enough for us all. The bar and restaurant on site was a lovely touch and so handy even though we'd bought most of our supplies with us. The rooms were clean and we had everything we needed kitchenwise. The surrounding landscape was very pretty (as was Tess the puppy!) and if we were to come again we'd definitely make good use of our wellies - although we did break them in walking to pub a mile and half away for Sunday lunch! What we liked about this place was that we were left to get on and enjoy ourselves unimpeded which is never a bad thing in my opinion...

16 of us stayed for a hen do. The accommodation was fantastic-lovely rooms and a very welcoming atmosphere. The treatments were wonderful and the treatment room was very relaxing. The hot tub was a great plus too-even in January! In the evening we had a murder mystery evening organised through the owner with an evening meal. Food was great-simple but very tasty. We loved the murder mystery! Lots of laughter and a great venue for a hen do.

This place totally misrepresents itself. The lady that runs it has no attention to detail and has no interest in the guests she hosts.

During our stay she cancelled a booking at the restaurant the day before we arrived leaving us stuck as to how to cater for almost 20 people. She also failed to make the correct bookings for the 'spa' treatments (carried out by a mobile therapist, nothing to do with the venue). The therapist did not recieve all the bookings so less than HALF the treatments were carried out. The massages were also done in cold room, not very relaxing or luxurious.

The hot tub was dirty and didn't properly work, and the sauna is very small - not great if you are in a group of three or more.

The floor was exposed concrete (luxurious) and its decorated with poorly hung clip frames with discoloured pictures.

The rooms were very cold and had seen a lot of wear and tear. The towels looked and felt like should have been replaced about five years ago too.

All in all, a very dissapointing experience that we will not be repeating again!
