I only wish I'd known they had such a great selection of wines beforehand as we'd have arrived earlier and sampled some. Lovely breakfast, very helpful staff. Room 17 was too small, though, for double occupancy - one of us had to keep sitting on the bed to let the other one pass.

Room Tip: Ask how big the room is!

Clean and modern rooms reasonably priced. Great wine store and wine bar with knowledgeable staff. Best breakfast value of our two weeks in the UK. Easy walk to the City. Very friendly staff. Can't go wrong here. Only caveat - very steep stairs to rooms.

We stayed here in September for our wedding anniversary, on a good dinner, bed and breakfast deal. Despite the beautiful building, the inside was tired and definitely more budget than boutique. However, for a short break away it really does what it says on the tin. Very close to central Taunton, very little noise from the road due to secondary glazing, modern bathroom facilities with better than average products, clean linen etc. However, should cleaning be attended to more thoroughly, and just a little more time and money spent on decor and updating, this hotel could be brought up to a very high standard, where perhaps the type of clientele would be more appreciative of the fabulous restaurant. Johnny made our stay thoroughly enjoyable, despite the scary receptionist on checking out day, and we took home 2 bottles of the best Sancerre I have ever drunk. Would go again on a similar deal.

Room Tip: Ask for a large quiet room.

We stayed here on Friday 14th September 2012 following a family wedding, after reading many reviews on here i was unsure exactly what to expect, however i must say i was pleasantly surprised, which is why i have decided to write this review !!

The room we stayed in was no 15, it was a little on the small side but ample for what we needed, the room was spotlessly clean and the en-suite hosted a shower and full bathtub (i thought this was excellent as i love to have a bath when getting ready and not all hotels have this luxury) and mini toiletries were also included.
On arrival there was a large complementary bottle of chilled water waiting for us and fresh milk in the fridge for tea and coffee. The linen and towels were freshly laundered and bright white and the bed was very comfortable. We looked out over the main entrance towards the road, and yes we did have the extractor fans underneath us however i cannot say they effected our nights sleep as others have, a building as large as this needs to be well ventilated and i feel the fans did not cause us a problem during the night and the noise coming from them was simply a light humming no more than a old fridge may cause at home.

There was road noise from passing vehicles but it was to be expected considering the position of this hotel, so again i wonder why people would choose to stay here if they find that a problem for themselves for us it was not, the close proximity to the town centre meant we could walk in and enjoy a stroll around the local area before our evening reception, and we were able to leave the car in the hotel car park which meant we were also able to enjoy a drink together.

In the evening the atmosphere in and around the hotel was lovely, we were able to move around into different areas inside and outside the building and purchase some amazing wines from the bar, although some may say they are a little overpriced i personally felt that was due to the quality of the wine and not necessarily the hotel prices. We also sampled a few tasty treats from the buffet that had been catered by the hotel for the wedding we attending.

In the morning we came down for breakfast, unsure of what to expect, but again we were pleased, once seated we received a large pot of fresh coffee and our orders were taken, we were then able to help ourselves to fresh orange juice etc..... from the buffet whilst waiting for our cooked breakfasts to arrive.

Upon leaving we paid the bill, were given a full break down of drinks/food purchased and could add on anything extra we had consumed in the room so we could see exactly what we were paying for.

We then took advantage of the position of the hotel and quickly walked into the town centre and picked up a few gifts for our children before returning to the hotel to pick up the car, as we walked back past reception a member of staff called out to us as we had managed to leave an item in our room which was then promptly returned.

Overall i can honestly say this hotel does exactly what it says on the tin, yes some of the rooms are compact (reflected in price) and yes the car park is a little on the small side if hotel at full capacity ( which we didnt find a problem) and yes there is road noise but considering position on the corner of a main road through to the town centre it is to be expected, but these things are minimal and i have to say our stay was throughly enjoyable and i would recommend this hotel to my friends for future stays and as a venue for weddings/parties.

The room I stayed in (no. 36) is starting to look tired. The bathroom also hadn't been cleaned properly either. The breakfast and service in the morning was excellent..could not fault it...Was it worth £90? Possibly not.

well presented clean and well situated, compact rooms very compact and if we had not had a special price for a group booking then they would not of been value for money. Food was of a reasonable standard but nothing to shout about. Drinks prices were more than you would expect for the standard of hotel . The soft mattress did not lend itself to a good nights sleep.

We stayed in this hotel for one night as we had visited family in Taunton and then wanted to drive to Street for bargains before returning to Berkshire. We were given room 3 - at the front of the hotel. The room was VERY hot when we arrived, looked for a thermostat but the radiators were not hot. Opened the windows and then it was VERY nosier Th traffic didn't die down until after 1 and then it started again at 4 and women arrived 6.30 and they chatted very loudly. We were glad we were only staying one night! It certainly wasn't a boutique room! We had a tight squeeze to get out of the carpark the exit is only 2 metres wide and someone had parked near the opening.
Definitely won't be using this hotel again.

Room Tip: Don't have room at the front - maybe it is quieter round the back.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review however we were disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. Rooms at the Corner House Hotel are budget accommodation however with the small luxuries such as a carton of fresh milk in the fridge and free WiFi. Room 3 is one of our large rooms with a king size bed however there is currently an ongoing refurbishment programme for our bedrooms. Whilst the temperature has now significantly dropped we are planning to put in some form of air conditioning in preparation for next July and August. We are able to offer quieter rooms which overlook the car park at the rear of the hotel. Please could I kindly ask you to contact me directly to discuss your stay further.
