Just like its reputation, top notch !
The best of British - top room - top staff - top food and best of all, value for money!
The Brazz has a great feel about it and the staff are most attentive. The food beautifully cooked and presented. The wine good value for money even with deals on bin ends !
The dog liked it too!

Room Tip: Try room 8

A very relaxing and enjoyable one-week stay. Our room was tastefully decorated and very clean and comfortable. It was serviced twice a day with a turn'down service in the evening. Wonderful food at breakfast, in the bar, room service, and in Brazz the restaurant. Staff were very attentive, friendly and efficient. It is very conveniently placed, quietly, right in the centre of Taunton, close to shops and newly opened museum. I felt that I was staying in a 'special' place. Will certainly stay here again, and again, and again. Very reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Room 61 was excellently located on back overlooking The Green, on second floor.

This is a great hotel, we have stayed here twice over the last year en route to Devon and Cornwall. The building itself is stunning, I particularly like the entrance lobby and the breakfast room, both of which retain the charm and character of the old building. The bar area and the Brazz restaurant have a more contemporary feel, the old and new sit well together. Our bedrooms/bathrooms were very clean and comfortable, we slept very well. The furnishings were all very clean and well presented. The pieces were quite eclectic but had been put together with considerable thought and style, that was inkeeping with the age and ambience of the hotel. The Brazz restaurant food we had was suberb and the service very good. The Hotel seems to source many ingredients locally and it was nice to see this acknowledged on the dinner and breakfast menu. The breakfast offered everything you could need and more, and the food was regularly replenished . The hotel staff were all very friendly and made us feel very welcome. A really comfortable and relaxing hotel.

I spent the night this week in a room with a single bed for £69.

The Hotel itself does have lots of character and I found the staff to be very helpful indeed so no problems there.

The room I was allocated was very small and narrow.

The furniture was fairly cheap and non of it matched giving a feeling that this room was a bit of an afterthought.

There was a radiator by the window which didn't work.

Given the age of the building, the window is unsurprisingly not double glazed which meant that I was woken up very early by a lorry beeping away as it reversed up the road to make a delivery.

The bathroom was clean apart from the tiles in the bath/shower which really need a good going over.

The bed was okayish but not particularly comfortable and again, the bedclothes were a bit of a mismatch, including a strange blue and white quilt that did not match the decor of the rest of the room.

For me though the shock of the stay was when I discovered that the rate did not include breakfast.

Breakfast weighs in at a whopping £15.50 which would have made my stay a grand total of £84.50.

I decided to pass.

I've stayed in much better rooms than this for less money so my conclusion was that I was paying for the character and history of the hotel which unfortunately did not extend as far as my room.

Pity.

This has to be one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at in a long time. I was welcomed by the porter who took my bags to my room and from that momet on the whole stay of 1night, 2 days was a great experience.
That dinner the owner came around the tables to ask if everything was ok with our meal and stay and was genually interested in feedback..
If you eat in the restarent, make sure you leave room for the desert as my sue-flay was one of the best I've ever eatern, and I have eaten lots!
The hotel room was light airy and clean, the only draw back was no mini bar.
My room had a great view and had great sound proofing as you couldn't hear the road outside at all.
The hotel doesnt have a pool/gym although they have an agreement with a local health club to use the facities. It a bit of a walk and did bother this time
This is one hotel I hope to stay in again.
Location is great and If you are looking for a hotel with charm this is it!!!
Enjoy.

We stayed at The Castle hotel in Taunton. It was quite expensive but worth every penny. We had a beautiful room with a sofa and chairs, flat screen TV, Coffe & tea with lovely cookies. The bathroom had a huge shower-head, what a pleasure. The price included a lovely buffet breakfast with a huge variety of anything you could wish for. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. I highly recommend it when you want to spoil yourself.

Room Tip: Pick a room that the elevator gets to so you don't have a problem with you suitcase
