Description: Taj Mahal in Taunton is an excellent and hugely popular Indian restaurant in Somerset. Variously described as great value, brilliant and as one of the best restaurants in Taunton, Taj Mahal is a great place for a memorable meal for locals, tourists and business visitors. It's certainly worth travelling for. Set in some of the west country's most stunning landscapes, Taunton is a lively town with a rich history and plenty to keep visitors entertained. As well as some quaint independent shops and coffee shops, Taunton offers scenic country walks, historic buildings and a thriving pub culture. Taj Mahal is a jewel in this county's crown. The restaurant at Taj Mahal boasts a vibrant atmosphere, with a modern design and a rich, warm colour scheme, which complements the atmosphere and cuisine. The friendly staff are always on hand to ensure diners have a pleasant and enjoyable experience. Taj Mahal specialises in contemporary Indian cuisine that showcases the very best of fresh spices to create tempting dishes for all tastes. The kitchen carefully crafts each dish to offer diners a range of spices and flavours. The extensive menu features plenty of classic Indian dishes, freshly prepared using only the finest ingredients. Start with poppadoms and a tray of chutneys as you browse, before following with a starter of honey lamb chops or sweet and spicy aloo channa chat. Main courses might be king prawn balti, garlic chilli masala or a chef's special chicken papeiaza - chicken tikka cooked with onions and green peppers in a medium spiced sauce. Pop a saag paneer and paratha on the side for a real feast. With a classy ambience, delicious food and courteous staff, Taj Mahal in Taunton certainly lives up to its majestic name.

The service here was really slow. It was over an hour from ordering until the food arrived. In common with many Indian restaurants they seem to concentrate on cooking take aways at the expense of the diners waiting in the restaurant. However when the food eventually arrived it was pleasant although rather under spiced. I enjoyed it but it could have done with a bit more 'oomph'

Hadn't been here in a while, but it was an excellend evening. The service was brilliant, made even better by the fact I had a curry I'd never tried before, which turned out to be rather spicy! The waiter noticed that I was struggling and appeared with water and offered me some yoghurt to go with the food and calm it down a bit. Next time I'll believe the chilli rating on the menu!

Excellent food, will be going again soon.

There were 9 of us. Food was OK, nothing special, other than an average curry house. But the service was appalling. Our food came 2 hours late - just on the time when we nearly walked out of the restaurant. To compensate of the delay manager gave us 10% discount. Which we merrily spent on our beer.

Cold, slow and lacking in every department so much so we left and only paid for drinks. I'm off back to the Blue Mango.
