“Free yes please, but paid entry no thanks”

Well all in all its a reasonable place to visit. It can be abit sparse on things to look at admittedly. Lots and lots of information to read up on, but not much to look at or interact with. If i was there on my own i could of had a good time, however taking a group of 10-12 year old proved hard to keep them entertained. Its this lack of interactive attractions which is expected in the modern day museums to a certian degree which lets this place down.
But if your lucky enough to go with kids that enjoy lots of reading then they will sure enjoy the time that is spent in the place.

On a different note avoid the cafe, totally over priced £1.85 for a tiny cup of luke warm instant hot chocolate which would cost you about 30p less for a whole pot in any supermarket.

“Good but a little sparse in places”

Some interesting exhibits and informative displays however the overall feeling is that the space could have been better utilised and more items included.

“Excellent Museum, fun and free.”

We visited here on a Saturday afternoon by chance after passing it walking from the car park to the high street and we were very glad we did. Very friendly and helpful staff welcomed us and told us about all the exhibits as well as where we could find the dressing up and activities for our 4 and 6 year olds. The dressing up is available to wear around the entire museum which our daughter loved (wasn't quite so happy when we had to return it before we went home!) and there are many areas for colouring, puzzles as well as a question sheet / treasure hunt for the slightly older children. We didn't visit the cafe but it looked very nice, lots of seating in the lovely courtyard. There is also a WW1 section, where you can learn about lots of the soldiers from Somerset who fought for our freedom and a military exhibit where the children can try on soldier's uniforms from WW1 and today. All in all a great find, highly recommended.
