“Lovely day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

We visited the centre with our parents and our little toddler, and we all found it really enjoyable. The guided tour was really personal and interesting, and it was fascinating to see inside the workshops and see all the machinery used to prepare the willow for weaving. The products on sale were lovely, and the tea room was very pleasant. We took a picnic and if the weather had been a tad more reliable, we may have gone on a more extensive walk around the area; as it was, we spent a good couple of hours there and we were really impressed at how 'well done' everything was. The fact that it is free admission with a small price for the guided tour is really excellent value when you consider the expense of other attractions with few added amenities.

“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2014

My wife and I paid a visit to the centre recently. We went there to find out about buying some willow for the garden. First of all we went into the cafe for a bit of lunch. We were very surprised by the choice of food available and the standard was excellent. There was a good selection of sandwiches, hot meals and cakes. Very impressed. We then visited the shop to enquire about the willow. the lady in the shop spent quite a lot of time with us explaining about living willow, how to plant and look after it. Very informative. Although not the cheapest of places, we will definitely be returning because you do feel that you've had good value for your money.

“basket case”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2014

This was a great find. The visitor centre is dedicated to willow weaving, still done here on site at small industrial level. The first thing that struck us was the friendliness of the staff - we even got a smiling greeting from onsite builders! There is a small RSPB museum, a willow basket museum, a great audio visual presentation which was fascinating and a large shop area. There are daily tours of the workshop areas (which we missed, unfortunately) and a small area of retail units selling arty/crafty items. The café was excellent!
There are walks from the visitors centre of varying lengths which take you through the willow beds and beyond. We did two loops through the Somerset levels (and could see the high water marks of the recent appalling flooding). We planned a short pop-in visit as part of our exploration of the area and were there for 7 hours! And we'll visit again....

“Learn to make a basket”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2013

My husband gave me a voucher to go and learn how to make a basket at this centre on a Saturday. It was absolutely brilliant! I am an avid crafter, but had never attempted anything like this. The course lasts from 9:30 to about 17:00 (with a lunchbreak - lunch is included in the package in their lovely coffee shop), materials and tea/coffee/biscuits are all included. The group is not larger than 7, so you get plenty of one-on-one tuition. Our tutor Paul was fabulous and very patient.

I thoroughly enjoyed a day learning an ancient craft - my basket is definitely not perfect, but I will never look at a basket in the same way again! i also know how much skill and work goes into producing one now!

This little course is an absolute gem for anyone who likes crafting or "dabble" into something new! Go for it!

Needless to say, the shop is full of treasures and the whole centre is well worth a visit!

“A Rare Skill still being Used”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

I live near this attraction but never get tired of visiting it. The shop is full of beautiful hand made items, the film showing the history of willow growing is fascinating, watching the workers making anything from a basket to a coffin is equally interesting and you can even make something yourself if you book onto one of their courses ! The tea room supply lovely cakes and there are good walks around the area too.
