“Whether a hotel or B&B it was a nice place to stay in Taunton”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2013

My wife and I stayed at Salisbury House for 2 nights in July. I have no problem with them calling it a hotel, it was nothing like the home-stay style B&B's we stayed in at other times while we were in England. Our room was nice albeit a little old-fashioned, but the bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of space for the two of us. We were treated very well by the staff who made up our room immediately we arrived allowing us to check-in an hour and a half early. The hotel was very conveniently situated to the centre of town and the cricket ground. The only downside was that we were (unexpectedly) charged 5 pounds per day for parking.

We think this is more a B & B/Guesthouse than a hotel, our room was quite tight but adequate, (Room 14) very clean, very friendly, Full English Breakfast with toast was very good, a few cereals and a Banana or apple being another option. Great location for walking into town, making everything very accessible. Down side for us was as it was right next to a very busy road and it was very warm weather we had to choose between being hot or putting up with the traffic noise. Bed was a bit soft for us which made sleep uncomfortable. We wouldn't stay again but we would recommend it.

Ok, so I would describe it as a guest house rather than a hotel. Nonetheless, we had a very pleasant stay. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was lovely. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend to others.

If you're used to the idea that all hotel rooms in Europe are small and over-priced you'll be surprised by the Salisbury. The rooms are spacious, well appointed (if not a bit antiqued), and it's perfectly located near the center of Taunton, which in my case makes all business activities an easy walk. I've stayed at the Salisbury twice and in both cases the WIFI was spotty at best - in other words, don't count on the internet as you'll likely be disappointed. The breakfast is more that adequate and the staff are generally helpful. All in all it's an inexpensive place to stay that provides nice comfortable rooms and a good breakfast. If you're looking for a high end hotel with great amenities, you're not going to find it here (or probably in Taunton at all).

This is not a hotel it's a B and B.
Having to stand on a busy street while you wait for the door bell to be responded to is not ideal.
It's well decorated and pleasant with good sized rooms furnished well with everything you need, although a glass in the bathroom and a shelf for toiletries would be useful.
Breakfast is ok but the cheapest jams are supplied.
I complained about the very large amount if hairs on the mattress cover, we are talking about enough to cover a small plate , the answer was " well there is a sheet over the top what's the problem" !
I was moved to another room although no help was offered to carry everything up two flights of stairs.
It's a shame the staff are only there to make money they do not engage with the guests.

Was greeted with smiles and the staff allowed us to leave our luggage before check-in time. There was a relaxed atmosphere and we slept well on comfortable beds. Breakfast was a nice selection to suit anyone and the cooked breakfast was ideal. This was our second stay and we would recommend this hotel to all.

After reading all the positive reviews I a little disappointed as i thought we were choosing the best hotel in town. While the rooms are clean and have attractive decor there is no refrigerator or air conditioning, so we could not have cold drinks in our room. I suppose this ensures you have to buy drinks at the bar, which is overpriced and the beer was warm.
We had to ask for towels as there were none in the room.
we didn't eat in the restaurant as the menu was very limited and there are many restaurants within walking distance. On the positive side it is close to the centre of town and has free wifi.

when we checked out we were overcharged and had to get a refund. If I ever return to Taunton I will try another hotel.

Thank you for your email - unfortunately we do not offer a fridge in the room as previous guests have found them to be generally noisy and prefer to use the public bar. Being a Victorian hotel I'm afraid air conditioning has been a talking point this year - if only our summers were as consistent as this!
