“Loving the Gothic / Victorian feel”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

I was very happy with the look and feel of this hotel.

I would have given 5 stars if the hotel was a bit more cared for. Some of the fixtures and fittings could do with some attention or replacing inc the bedroom carpet.

The location is great and within 5 minutes away from the town centre. The service was good and so was the price. Would go back! All in all very good!

This was our second stay here as we have family in the area and we have found this to be the best location.
As others have said this is really more a B&B than an hotel but the rooms are clean, beds reasonably comfortable and breakfast freshly cooked. Very few staff and no lifts or help with luggage so if like us, your rooms are on the 3rd floor (as with both our stays here), it's a long walk (39 steps) up with luggage so pack lightly!
Good location as a 2 minute walk into town but on a busy road so it can get noisy as the police station and hospital are both within 5 minutes so the sirens go all night. Shower water pressure in both our rooms was very weak which was not great and shower cubicle smaller than average due to the odd shape of it.
Overall not a bad place to stay, we will probably end up there again, as the parking is free, location is great and we are out all day in any case!

I was there 2 different weeks for business reasons, the rooms were clean but I was not expecting to find what I found in the drawer along with the Bible (c****ms)
The breakfast was average, there did not seem to be many staff there was only 2 I saw all week. I would not recommend anyone to order the room service evening meal, it was a microwaved overpriced poor meal. I was able to hear noise from other rooms including snoring all night !!

It seems to be a very popular place - the car park was very full. The room was of a good size and had all of the fixtures and fittings of a good standard Holiday Inn. The bed was huge and despite the freezing temperatures outside, the room was warm. I love a good shower, but unfortunately the shower in my room trickled pathetically onto the floor and the soap smells cheap. The staff are pleasant and checkout is easy.

Had to go to a christening in that part of the world and took extended family members.
It's not really a hotel but a bandb with bolt ons.
The room in which my wife and I stayed was on the ground floor and opened directly on to the car park.
It was a very warm night and one had to leave the window open which left one feeling very exposed. It's right in the middle of town and there seemed to be a constant procession of people walking up and down.Difficult to sleep with one eye open. Also there were no staff members on duty at night.
Breakfast average
Car park hopelessly overcrowded.
Poor value.

Room Tip: Do not take a room overlooking the car park

This is not most peoples idea of a hotel. The good points: The rooms are well furnished and clean. It is 3 mins. walk to the town center. The bad points: The heating does not come on till 17 30 so you have cold rooms till 18:00 ish. Half the radiators are not turned on. Breakfast is a farce if there are any more than 12 people to breakfast it will take you over half an hour to get a not very full breakfast. Mushroom, bacon, poor sausage, egg and a warm half of tomato. The rooms have loose floorboards so lots of creaking and you can hear people talking/ TV in rooms around. There is no night porter so there is lots of banging on the door when some fool forgets their key. The bar is for show. It is a B&B.

Room Tip: Don't go for the front a lot of road noise.

I stayed here for one night as I was worried about the threat of a hurricane and thought I might not like being at home, so I decided to treat myself. This is the second time I have stayed here. This time I booked on the day, I booked a double/sole occupancy room. When I arrived I was amazed to find myself in a large family/disabled room on the ground floor. It was really lovely with a large TV which you can watch in bed. The Freeview however is not so good unless you only want to watch BBC. The bed was lovely and comfortable.

I did not stay for breakfast as I had to go home before going on to work. There is a bar but I did not use this.

The only downside was there did not seem to be a hairdryer in the room. I looked in all the drawers and cupboards but there wasn't one, which is a bit disappointing.

This hotel is excellent for the town centre of Taunton. It is on a busy main road and you do hear the traffic but it is not really a problem. I would highly recommend this lovely little hotel.
