“Comfortable and centrally located”
Reviewed 6 May 2010

Clean, comfortable, classically-styled hotel just walking distance from the centre of Taunton. Plenty of parking. My room was very spacious, and quiet despite the busy road on which the hotel sits. Breakfast was adequate rather than generous and the staff quietly efficient rather than warm and welcoming. If I was looking for things to criticise I might say the Salisbury House was a bit mechanical and soulless, but I was just looking for comfortable overnight accommodation at a fair price and was not disappointed here.

We keep popping into this hotel for a couple of nights now and then for various reasons. Each time we visit we are impressed with the warmth of greeting from the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, the lovely breakfasts and the general ambiance. It's an oasis of calm in the centre of a large busy town.

It's no wonder we keep coming back, because, apart from what I've said above, the shops in the centre of Taunton are but a 5 minute walk away as the icing on the cake. Thank you for looking after us so well once again.

This hotel offers most things you need at a very good price for a city centre hotel. If you are after a hotel that’s buzzing with activity at the bar and a lively atmosphere then this isn’t for you but if you want a hotel that offers Clean & simple rooms with WiFi , full breakfast, all day parking for under a £100 a day for two adults then you can’t go wrong.

My Wife feels very safe staying here while on business trips, the included wifi, parking and close locality to the city centre makes it idea for business. I’ve stayed here to with her, its very handy for the County cricket ground for starters!. The rail station is just under the mile away to. Weston Super Mare is only about 30 mins on the train from town

We wander down the town for evening meals, there are many restaurants to chose from, all in walking distance.

The rooms are simple, functional, very clean. Better than the budget hotel chains. Bare in mind the hotel is on a busy main road so try for a back room, the windows are double glazed though. You have a key to the front door. You rarely bump into the staff other than at breakfast, but then you don’t need to.

This hotel was the second hotel we stayed in during our vacation. We were looking forward to not having to go out for a meal but just relaxing in the hotel's restaurant, this did not happen as there were very few options available to eat, however we did enjoy the cooked breakfast. The room was a little dated but the shower room was fine.

What a beautiful hotel. Met all our needs. Four females all related shared a family room with adequate beds and a nice bathroom. Lovely sitting room downstairs and powder room adjacent. Breakfast was delightful and well cooked and presented. Another two relatives joined us for breakfast in the morning. The only fly in the ointment was the central heating in our room was going full blast (in June) and when we called for help at 11pm to turn it off the girl tried her hardest but to no avail. So four very hot and bothered ladies trying to sleep in sauna like conditions!

My partner and I stayed for only 1 night as part of a wedding weekend. We paid a little extra for the superior double and it was well worth the extra. The room was very clean, very spacious and the bed was a dream to sleep in. We found the staff very helpful and the breakfast was perfect. Location is great for Taunton and we would definitely stay again.

We booked a short Family stay for initially 2 nights and extended it to 3nights - as we wanted to spend more time in Taunton.

The hotel is nicely kept. Very clean - could do with a bit of fresh air in the bedrooms though. The staff were very pleasant and friendly, nothing was too much trouble.

Breakfast - there was a choice of Cereals, Orange Juice, Grapefruit Juice, Tea or Coffee then you could have a Full English Breakfast - which was very nicely presented and food of very high quality. I think the Eggs must have been Free Range straight from the Farm as they were big and taste good. I reckon the Bacon & Sausage were fresh from a local Butcher - very nice! Only negative about the Breakfast is the lack of selection of Cereals - was very bland - Corn Flakes, Bran Flakes - would have been nice to have had a wider selection with perhaps some Crossaints and butter. My husband & son had cooked breakast (which I am unable to eat) - but the cereal was so bland - I landed up having nothing!

Besides the lack of Cereals - everything else was very very good - and our stay enjoyable in a very pleasant and Friendly environment.

As a Family we Highly recommend "Salisbury House Hotel" and is probably one of the nicest places we'v stayed in. We will be back!

Tx for a great stay!

  • Liked — It was very nicely kept, great and very convenient located. Staff very friendly and always happy to give their guests a SMILE and helping hand - no matter what!
  • Disliked — To be honest - considering the Hotel has been newly redecorated and refurbished - the Top bedcovers are well worn and faded. They could do with replacing! The light in bathroom could be brighter - was very dim!
