“A Very Pleasant Surprise - lovely small hotel”
Reviewed 10 June 2013

We enjoyed a 3 night stay at The Mount Hotel in May. The receptionist Emily had a lovely smile and was very welcoming after our long journey. Emily showed us to our room, Durstan which has a beautiful view of the gardens and croquet lawn. The bathroom was newly refurbished with a walk in twin shower and also a large bathtub with a view of the garden. The hotel provided tea making facilities, bottled water, fresh fruit and homemade biscuits in our room each day. We found all the staff to be exceptionally helpful even though the hotel was busy with wedding and private parties to cater for throughout the Bank holiday weekend. We ate dinner in the restaurant on our first night. Service in the lounge for aperitifs was good. Having eaten in Michelin starred restaurants we thought our meal at The Mount was fabulous. The flavours were fresh and clean. The after dinner petit fours are a must! On Sunday our family joined us for drinks on the hotel terrace before enjoying the hotel's Sunday lunch. We were given a lovely table near a window overlooking the garden, which we really appreciated. A jazz duo was playing during the meal which we all enjoyed. All 6 of us thought the 3 course lunch was exceptional. Overall, this hotel was a really lovely place to stay.

My husband took me away for the weekend to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary and my birthday, and to ask me again to marry him. Did I say yes? Well, of course I did! What a wonderful place. It was good to be back to our roots in Somerset, and this place is the cat's meow. Everything was impeccable, and the surrounding gardens which seem to go on for miles, are just stunning. But not in that completely cut look, but it looks like someone loves the garden and is proud. Thank you!

We visited The Mount for their monthly Sunday lunch with musicians.

The setting is beautiful and on the day we went the weather was perfect. We all enjoyed the various starters, very well cooked roast beef and a varied local cheese board. The puddings were also very tasteful I was told as well.

So the food was excellent, but there were some minor irritations which had they been not been there would have made the whole experience perfect. Silly little mistakes like one of the table napkins missing, missing light bulbs in the ladies loo making it almost pitch black, forgetting spoons for the vegetables, forgetting the peppermill when asked and, once they’d remembered it, serving a cloudy pint of lager which had to be sent back. It's almost as if there was a staff shortage and it really needed someone in overall charge to oversee the quality-control. Not exactly a maitre d' but someone in overall control taking responsibility for the critical non essentials.

A bit of a lack of outdoor tables and chairs but this was probably due to a large birthday party taking place on the same day.

Anyway, although slightly irritating, it didn't spoil our lunch and altogether we had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Amazing hotel in lovely settings, with great views. Gardens very well maintained. Breakfast was a real treat, better than any other 5 star hotel I have stayed in in the UK. Leisure club was very well appointed, if a little small, no swimming pool & no gym. Both myself and my wife had a massage, by far from a good massage, but we do have at least one massage each, each month, so we are well massaged.

We stayed at the Mount Somerset Hotel & Spa on 28th May as a treat for my birthday and to end our 5 day mobile home tour of Somerset. And a treat it was! From the moment we checked in until the moment we left we experienced excellent service from the friendly staff. Our room was large and had wonderful views across the countryside. Both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant were superb and the complimentary pre-dinner canapés were delicious. We felt 'looked after' and left relaxed and rested. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Stayed here back in February on the Sunday special which included a three course meal a nights stay and breakfast. On first impressions the hotel outside and the grounds are impressive. The inside is slightly tired with badly stained carpets downstairs. Waited at least half an hour to be seated in the dinning room when finally seated I had an absolutely gorgeous Moroccan lamb soup starter followed by a absolutely awful roast beef dinner! So bad so I actually complained which I have never ever done at a hotel before! Waiting staff polite but very young and inexperienced. On to the room which I must say redeemed the stay, beautifully decorated clean and spacious and the bathroom was to die for! Spoke with one of the male housekeepers who was very friendly and helpful showed us around a few of the other rooms incase we wished to book in the future a real credit to the hotel! All in all would stay again but would not recommend the restaurant experience or the food!
