“Better now.”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

After years of being owned and leased on a tied contract by one of the large groups this excellent Pub / Restaurant is now back in private hands.

The New owners are investing in this enterprise in more than just money.

The staff are friendly, the food is very good and on Friday night they serve Fish and Chips to eat in or take away, large enough portions to satisfy any appetite. The beer is well kept, a couple of local beers as regulars and guest beers to add the occasional surprise.

“Nice new owners, going back.”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

I have been to this pub many times before and always felt a warm reception. The new overs have been amazing with the occasional light live music that you can either talk to friends or sit and enjoy a book.

The restaurant part was great with the wall being hand painted and meals that where just as delicate. A fantastic, reasonably priced starter and meal (too full for a pudding) made for a lovely enjoyable night with family and friends.

“Nice!”
Reviewed 26 January 2014

Brand new owners making an effort.
This pub has obviously been recently re-done: you can still smell the paint. It's not been modernised and killed though: I get the impression that an old village pub has been cleaned up. It's split into a cosy saloon bar with a fire and board games, and a restaurant which is a bit more plain and retains the sticky carpet that was obviously there before it was refurbished. It felt a touch unfinished, but still a nice place to eat. I will be willing to bet that the decoration is a work in progress and will continue to improve.
The staff seemed like happy people, who managed to cope well with a reasonably busy Sunday lunch that included a funny family of about 400 lunatic children. It seemed a nice family friendly place.
The bar has (along with happy locals) good, well kept beer. Cotleigh 25, Exmoor Gold, and Otter Bitter was available when we went.
The food was awesome! Modern versions (not too different to put traditionalists off) of normal pub food, with nice veggie options, all really, really tasty with nice portion sizes. Apparently the menu changes regularly. The bill was probably about average for Taunton, so not outrageous, and it felt like excellent value.

We really liked it there, and will go again.

“Best Sunday lunch ever!”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

The food was FABULOUS! My husband had roast lamb which was delicious and was beautifully presented on the plate. My mussels were the best I've ever had this side of the Channel.
