“Faultless!”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

My wife and I occasionally come to Taunton and have in the past had some fairly unsatisfying evening meal experiences at Wetherspoons and the Pitcher and Piano. After reading the Trip Advisor reviews of the Ring of Bells we decided to try this establishment for a change.

First impressions were not good: it is convenient to the centre of the town but from the outside looks a bit down at heel, and on a midweek late afternoon the bar area seemed to be full of older blokes drinking after work. But the restaurant section looked inviting and we noticed that quite a few tables had reserved signs on them, so we booked a table for 6pm when the evening meals started, and had a couple of drinks in the meantime.

There was a good choice on the menu and we found both the food and the service were absolutely excellent. Our waiter (the proprietor?) was clearly concerned that we had an enjoyable time and very apologetic about a bottle of wine we requested that wasn't available. We certainly felt like valued customers.

There was a good ambience with quiet background music and - a pleasant change - no TV screens. We noticed that quite a few of the restaurant customers were, unlike us, coming straight in to eat and bypassing the bar, but both areas were doing good business with a lot of staff around so no waiting.

All so much better than the bland offerings and poor service at so many of the big chains!

Popped in for a quick bite to eat this lunch time with my wife. Lovely food, a very pleasant environment and great service. Very reasonably priced food and wine.

“delicious food”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

Top marks to the chef, have had lunch and an evening meal here and both were great. On my most recent visit I had the burger and it was delicious. Triple cooked chips homemade coleslaw and salad. The other people I dined with also enjoyed their meals.
Staff helpful and friendly. Nice atmosphere

“Very nice food”
Reviewed 18 March 2014 via mobile

A group of us ate here, this is a small public house that is very clean and maintained. The menu is not extensive but there is a variety, I had fish pie which was lovely and full of flavour, the food was hot being served and reasonably priced. I did not have pudding but the ones I saw coming out of the kitchen looked very nice and a good size! The staff were pleasant and helpful. Overall an enjoyable experience.
