I visited Tamarack Lodge with 10 old university friends for a long-overdue catch-up, and we couldn't have chosen a better place. The first thing we all remarked on was the amazing serenity of the the area -- we could hear no road noise at all -- and how stunningly clear the night sky was (the Milky Way was clearly visible, and we saw a few shooting stars during our stay).
The cabin was very homely, yet surprisingly spacious, with plenty of room for all 11 of us (and space outside for camping if required!). Given the poor weather the first couple of days, we were very glad of the wood-burning stove & comfy armchairs/sofas in the living room, along with the large dining room table for boardgames and cards to while away the rainy hours! Once the sun came out, we found the surrounding area to be equally beautiful. There are plenty of walks in the vicinity, taking in several local pubs if you wish, and room outside the lodge for ball games & eating out. Matt provided a fire pit but alas we didn't get a chance to use it -- perhaps next time!
There are quite a few shops within about a 30 minute drive for groceries, and lots of activities further afield in Somerset and Devon if you're feeling more adventurous than we were. My only advice for potential guests is to bring your own kitchen knives if you like cooking -- although the kitchen is very well stocked with utensils & general cooking/baking equipment, the provided knives have been ruined by years' worth of guests.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, so thanks Matt for facilitating a cracking friends' reunion!
