I spent 2 nights at Yallands Farmhouse.
It is a very old farmhouse situated in a green oasis, with a nice garden surrounded by trees, on the outskirts of Taunton yet only 40 minutes walk from the centre.
Chris and Karen were very welcoming and good company. They were very helpful indeed when a problem with my car arose.
My single room was very comfortable and the breakfasts very good.
All in all a good stay and good value-for-money.

My wife and our 2 young children stayed here at the weekend and, after such a great experience plan to stay again soon! Chis and Karen were very welcoming and happy for us to come and go as we pleased once we had checked in. The family room we stayed in was immaculate and a really good size for a double, single + camp bed. Very clean bathroom with a whirlpool bath and separate WC and sink. Breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious in a lovely homely dining room where all the guests chatted over breakfast! We were staying for a christening and unfortunately had left my cufflinks 220 miles away at home! Chris was a true gent and lent me pair of his even though we checked out that day...Also close enough to Taunton centre to walk on a good day, close to the station too.Yallands is a rural idyll in the middle of a buit up area, fantastic all round and highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed in 'The granary' room, really good for families.

Looking forward to having an excuse to go again. Shame we live so far away as it would be great to go there just to chat to Chris and Karen and sample their superb food on a regular basis. We stayed one night on our way to Cornwall with my partner's Mum who has very specific dietary preferences that were accommodated with a smile, nothing was too much trouble. We were sad that we didn't stay longer and will definitely return as soon as we can. Both hosts worked extremely hard to keep Yalland's in tip-top shape, and their hard work is much appreciated as was their hospitality. Chris & Karen made every effort to make sure not only our, but all their guests stay with them as pleasant as it could be Thanks again you two, we had a great stay.

My husband and I recently stayed at Yallands for four nights and found it an oasis in the midst of modern housing. The service bus stops directly outside and it is very close to both the Park and Ride bus and the Somerset Heritage Centre. We were warmly welcomed and found both Karen and Chris very friendly and helpful.

We had a large comfortable room with a small en-suite. Everywhere was very clean. There is a very well equipped residents lounge.

Breakfasts were varied and cooked to order. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal Karen prepared for us on the evening of our arrival and recommend you pre-order and sample her cooking.

We shall certainly return here when next we visit the Heritage Centre or need to stay inTaunton.

When I traveled to Taunton I wanted to stay over at a English B&B to see what differences there are to the American B&Bs. I found that the need for privacy is ever present and the helpfulness of the owners is indeed impeccable.

It's close to the center of town and the train station (only about a 5-10 min drive) and the quiet of the neighborhood allows you to enjoy the privacy.

The breakfast was delicious, especially the homemade jam, but I thought it was lacking an interesting story. This is what differs perhaps from the American B&Bs. We have this need to include a background or history of the place along with so e quirky or unique aspect of the place, food, owners, etc that will entice the people to return the next time we're in town,

Room Tip: The Courtyard room, although next to the courtyard, was quiet, spacious and the bed was super comfor...

When I have to work away for sometimes up to whole weeks, I always like to try and find somewhere homely - Yallands definitely delivered on that front! Right from the off they (owners Chris and Karen) had to put up with my later than expected arrival (midnight) but they were great about it. The food was excellent - from home made muesli and marmalade (had to purchase a jar it was so good) to a full English you're needs will be exceeded at breakfast. Karen is a top notch Chef as the evening meals were tremendous and very fairly priced. The hotel itself is very clean, with good sized rooms and a lovely open fire to sit round. Great hotel, great staff, great food and a homely atmosphere second to none. Thanks gor the excellent stay - Five stars!

Just returned from yet another excellent stay at this lovely old farmhouse where Karen and Chris run a fantastic bed and breakfast, the rooms are full of character, well furnished and spotlessly clean, the breakfasts are of a very high standard, and, although not tried it yet, have been told the evening meals are exceptional, we will be sampling this in the near future, we have already experienced one of Karen and Chris's barbecues, what a great evening, food fantastic and great company, looking forward to our next visit in July.

Room Tip: all rooms are of excellent value and are different in their own way.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Owners Chris & Karen Ward look forward to welcoming you to Yallands Farmhouse - our delightful Grade II Listed building dating back over 400 years, which sat amidst acres of green fields for several centuries. The expansion of Taunton during the 1970's led to new housing being built on the former farmland. The farmhouse, with its secluded garden, small orchard, and stone barn was left intact. As a result, Yallands has become an unexpected 'oasis' of peace and tranquility within a modern corner of Somerset's county town. Yallands offers self-assessed 4 star accommodation in Taunton, Somerset. The house is situated 1 1/2 miles from Taunton town centre, on the north-western edge of the town, and is easily reached from the M5 motorway - junction 25 (4 miles), and junction 26 (6 miles). For those who are reliant on public transport a local bus, with a stop at the foot of the garden, provides a frequent daytime service to and from the town centre. The lovely town centre provides excellent shopping and county cricket, horse racing, golf, theatre and other leisure facilities are all available nearby. Taunton has a good selection of restaurants and wine bars to suit most tastes and the surrounding countryside offers many delightful pubs which serve excellent food. There is ample car parking space in the private grounds together with lockable cycle storage in the stables. Why not enjoy relaxing in our gardens in the summer or sitting in front of our open fire in those cold winter months? Yallands is open all year round and - whether you are a tourist or a business visitor - you can be assured of a warm welcome and our individual attention.Yallands is particularly convenient for Taunton School, The Somerset Heritage Centre & Nuffield Hospital. ... more   less
