“Lovely relaxing stay”
Reviewed 16 February 2014 via mobile

We stayed at Yalland Farmhouse as a family with our 2 children (5 & 2 years old). On our arrival, we were treated to a lovely warm welcome from Karen. We immediately felt relaxed and at home. The farmhouse is gorgeous and our room was cosy and comfortable. We enjoyed a drink in the Lounge, with friendly service from Chris. Our stay was finished off by a tasty breakfast, complete with delicious homemade marmalade.
We would thoroughly recommend Yalland Farmhouse, and will definitely stay there again!

Myself and my wife stayed recently for 1 night; I chose this establishment as it was listed at a competitive rate and well located in Taunton. The location is admittedly odd for a 'farmhouse' being in the middle of a housing estate but the building is very fine and I think it just adds to the quirky charm. The rooms have many original features which give them an extra touch of character.

Welcome very good, door was opened for us by Karen which was nice as it was tipping down with rain and our hands were full. Shown to our rooms and advised of breakfast time and facilities. All extras detailed in other reviews are present including hot water bottle, blankets and pillows. Nice shower gel and handwash in the bathroom. It is possilbe to buy any toiletries you might have forgotten to bring as well as a pay for use selection of alcoholic drinks (nice to see in a B&B). Nice selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the room and fresh milk available on request. Extra portable heater in room was a nice touch. Bed very comfortable and king sized (in our room). Very clean room and toilet which demonstrates a good attention to detail as we have lost touch of the number of stray pubes we have found in other B&Bs over the years.

Only minor quibble is that the water pressure and heating went down after breakfast, as we were staying till check out time it was a shame we couldn't have another shower. (This may have been our fault for not making clear that we were staying late so it is not a big deal and did not detract from our stay). We were offered use of the lounge to wait longer and were told that the heat would be put on for us if we wanted which was a kind gesture.

Breakfast very good, including cooked English, toast and cereals. Ingredients used were top notch with a nice pot of tea and pleasant breakfast room. Our hosts were polite and approachable without being overwhelming and provided a very good environment for our stay. It is apparent that they get much repeat business which is a good indicator of quality. Well done Karen and Chris (We shall return... I got the job).

Very handy for the Somerset County Records Office, the purpose of our stay in Taunton a few weeks ago.

We enjoyed a delicious home cooked meal on the evening of our arrival, and had an excellent night's sleep in a very comfy bed. It is a joy to find a B&B that is so quiet at night.

After a long drive we didn't want to have to go out again to find a restaurant so the decision to pre-book a meal was a good one. We had a short wait, just time to sample a comfortable armchair in front of the open fire and have a glass of wine. Perfect.

Breakfast was equally good, the host and hostess cheerful, welcoming and helpful at all times.

Would we go back? Certainly.

Room Tip: We had the room with the spa bath - it was only a little more expensive because they had an offer on...

Once you've looked at the Yallands Farmhouse website, stop searching. As we walked in the front door it felt right. Karen was waiting to greet us and to show us to our room which had little extras (eg: hot water bottle, sewing kit). Breakfast was perfect and Chris an entertaining waiter. Nothing seemed too much trouble and Karen & Chris were vying to see who could get the most smiles from our grandson! Next time we're in Taunton we know where we'll be staying.

My family and I stayed here for 2 nights and we couldn't have found a better B & B. We had a lovely welcome, the rooms were cosy (even my 15 month old nephew slept well in the cot provided), the breakfast was yummy, and Chris and Karen were the perfect hosts. Would definitely stay here again when we're next in Taunton.
Thanks Chris and Karen!

If you are looking for a 16th century converted farmhouse that is now a recently renovated hotel - perhaps not. But you might re-consider that when you get a warm welcome and a well appointed room that is very reasonably priced. Yes, I will be back and definitely worth considering if you want something less monolithic for a change.

Arrived at Yallands Farmhouse - did not expect to find a piece of heaven. We were greeted by Chris & Karen and made to feel very welcome. Our room was in keeping with this lovely Farmhouse having great character, we were fortunate to be shown some of the other rooms and all were decorated to a high standard and all spotlessly clean. We had ordered an evening meal, which was home cooked, inexpensive and good value for money, make sure you try the homemade Ice cream. The full English breakfast catered for everybody’s needs, cooked to perfection and how you like it. The Farmhouse steeped in history, had a warm and pleasant feel about it, convenient for days out/attractions. We would definitely stay again. We stayed for two nights.

Room Tip: Would give Chris and Karen a call, all rooms are different and you can choose the room that suits yo...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Owners Chris & Karen Ward look forward to welcoming you to Yallands Farmhouse - our delightful Grade II Listed building dating back over 400 years, which sat amidst acres of green fields for several centuries. The expansion of Taunton during the 1970's led to new housing being built on the former farmland. The farmhouse, with its secluded garden, small orchard, and stone barn was left intact. As a result, Yallands has become an unexpected 'oasis' of peace and tranquility within a modern corner of Somerset's county town. Yallands offers self-assessed 4 star accommodation in Taunton, Somerset. The house is situated 1 1/2 miles from Taunton town centre, on the north-western edge of the town, and is easily reached from the M5 motorway - junction 25 (4 miles), and junction 26 (6 miles). For those who are reliant on public transport a local bus, with a stop at the foot of the garden, provides a frequent daytime service to and from the town centre. The lovely town centre provides excellent shopping and county cricket, horse racing, golf, theatre and other leisure facilities are all available nearby. Taunton has a good selection of restaurants and wine bars to suit most tastes and the surrounding countryside offers many delightful pubs which serve excellent food. There is ample car parking space in the private grounds together with lockable cycle storage in the stables. Why not enjoy relaxing in our gardens in the summer or sitting in front of our open fire in those cold winter months? Yallands is open all year round and - whether you are a tourist or a business visitor - you can be assured of a warm welcome and our individual attention.Yallands is particularly convenient for Taunton School, The Somerset Heritage Centre & Nuffield Hospital. ... more   less
