“Lovely hotel, great staff”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

We stayed in the New Hall hotel for one night over Easter. We have stayed in a few of the Hand Picked hotels before and love them. This one certainly kept up the reputation.
The grounds are beautiful and very peaceful.
The best part of our stay was the staff, very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The little touches make all the difference, from the personal card on arrival to the relaxing areas to sit in and use the free wifi for a couple of hours whilst relaxing in the lounge in the morning.

I came with my Boyfriend for only one night back in November around the 14th. From start to finish the stay was amazing. The staff were so friendly and helpful, first class service. We so enjoyed our stay we are off to another handpicked hotel this weekend. The breakfast was out of this world and came on the dot of 9 to our door as we asked. Room and garden so pretty and very comfy. Please give the staff a big pat on the back. Was the prefect romantic get away from my birthday. Thank you.

Overall, we had a nice stay. Treatments were great and although the spa was separate from the hotel, it was nice, clean and staff were friendly.
But some things were just a bit disappointing.. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and by the time we went down for a drink before dinner, the fires had been left to go out and the place was cold.
Our room was pretty average, having paid for an upgrade to an executive room - I think it was a bit bigger but that was it really.
Rypical handpicked really - could be amazing but just doesn't quite hit the mark

Thank you for using Trip Advisor to relay your feedback following your recent stay at New Hall Hotel & Spa.

Whilst I was delighted to hear that you enjoyed our Spa and Leisure Club, I was somewhat disappointed to read your comments regarding the temperature of the common areas and your thoughts on our Executive bedrooms.

Quite simply there is no excuse as to why the open fire in the lounge was not maintained and accordingly I have reviewed your feedback with my team to ensure this oversight is not repeated in the future.

In respect to your comments regarding our bedrooms, I wish to advise you that all of our rooms have been comprehensively refurbished over the course of the past 3 years. Initially 48 bedrooms in our Courtyard section of the hotel were refurbished shortly after Hand Picked Hotels purchased New Hall in 2008. Additionally we refurbished the remaining Heritage bedrooms in the original part of the house, last year. Given your thoughts on our Executive Rooms, I would suggest requesting one of our Heritage Bedrooms on your next visit. Located in the historical part of the hotel (which is over 800 years old), these rooms are individual in both their layout and décor and provide real comfort and atmosphere.

Once again thank you for your feedback and on behalf of the team here, I look forward to welcoming you back to New Hall Hotel & Spa in the near future.

Kind regards,

Simon

My partner and I have a mission to work our way through the HandPicked Hotel group, this was iour second, the first being Ettington Park near Stratford.
Totally different level of hotel, sadly. Staff however where friendly and helpful although not enough of them.

Some good points, breakfast was superb and so was our rather late ordered cream tea which the staff were happy to get for us even after time which was lovely of them.
The room was nicely furnished and decorated. Bathroom was pretty tiny and shower was tricky to turn on!
The building itself is magnificent and the grounds are beautiful and very well kept. Lovely for a walk around the moat or woodland walk.

On the whole the hotel seemed a bit shabby with office type cheap carpet in all the corridors and in the restaurant. My partner complained of a bad toilet smell in our room, not nice! Also the air conditioning was really rattly and loud. The TV was also nice to have but the picture was really bad. Lack of an ironing board didnt help.

The SPA was just ok, mould on the tiles in the ladies showers was really gross.

Not enough towels or privacy for changing either. And the walk from the hotel at night was a shock to the relaxed body and mind! And we couldnt find an open door to get back into the hotel which was pretty annoying!

The most disappointing element was the dinner that evening. After Ettington Park we had high expectations! It was very average, unremarkable. we had three courses and wine. Canapes were olives and some weird consomme. The staff were helpful and friendly but the food really let it down. Spoilt the trip totally for my partner sadly.

Went here for a two day conference.

The hotel is lovely, my room was great, but the standard of food let it down. We were basically served stodge. Whether this was because we were a group I don't know. The portions at dinner were also quite small.

I was disappointed because I had always fancied staying at this place and it was a bit of an anti-climax.

This hotel and its staff are nothing short of amazing.

Please bear in mind, we are both professionals, and both used to efficiency and quality, this hotel came upto our high standards. It turned our already well organised wedding into the wedding of our dreams.

The venue was fabulous, Albert, Stephen and Natalie were nothing short of amazing, and made not only us, but our guests feel welcome, and assured that everything was in hand.

The wedding went incredibly smoothly and the whole weekend was something we will remember for a very long time to come.

We have just been back this weekend and celebrated our 1st Anniversary. It was lovely for us to be remembered there as soon as we walked through the door, and we were treated like royalty.

Thinking of having your wedding here? Do not hesitate a moment longer. We did not rush into booking this venue, we were sensible and viewed 5 other venues and logically made our choice, but we have to admit that we fell in love in the first instance with the yew arch down near the wedding pavilion, and longer term we fell for the whole place, its staff and its magic.

Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: If you are getting married here, DO have the bridal suite, its worth every single penny.

I booked New Hall Hotel as a surprise birthday lunch with my husband . We havn't been for 15 years as we had our wedding banquet here and it is local only 2 miles from our home. We had a lovely lunch some changes to the hotel. The once mini lounge has been converted into the Terrace restaurant . The staff were very nice and very attentive they put the heater on in the room as it was a little cool. My husband had the Smokey chicken consomme and Lamb Shank it was delicious off the bone and well cooked. I had the grilled hake and red onion and gruyere cheese tart absolutely divine. We had a lovely lunch. Unfortunately we were the only couple in the restaurant and there was no real atmosphere empty tables all around us. Perhaps because it is a weekday Wednesday. We were a little disappointed with the dining furniture they were wooden chairs and tables a little like a garden centre canteen too much like a farmhouse. New Hall is a 4 star rated restaurant we preferred a more grander style furniture and perhaps the decor could be more like there Grand Chamber with the uphostered Fleur de leys high back chairs and dark wood furniture perhaps white linen tablecloths to match just to make the room look more to the period of the building and the same style as the other dining rooms in the hotel. We enjoyed the food very much but it lacked the ambiance of a mini staely home just a thought perhaps. We will definitely go back and try the Bridge Restaurant in the near future for an evening meal.. Enjoyed the birthday meal very much.
