“Friendly staff and a beautiful historic building”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

LOCATION: a short tax ride from Sutton Coldfield station (£5 by taxi)
DECOR/STANDARD OF ACCOMMODATION: Pleasant surroundings, beautiful historic building, lovely grounds for a stroll. Comfortable beds (twin room), good in room facilities (tea/coffee/minibar/robes/tv/hairdryer etc). Comfortable beds. Good shower pressure. The room was very warm, particularly at night.
SERVICE/STAFF: Arrived at the same time a wedding was taking place. Check in efficient and staff very helpful and friendly. Went to a lounge wanting a quick lunch before our first spa treatment. Had to wait too long for service and eventually went to find a waitress. Waited too long for sandwiches (think the staff confused us with other guests who had pre-ordered their lunch). After this bumpy start the only way was up! Service from this point on was excellent. All staff responsive, happy, friendly and helpful.
RESTAURANT/FOOD: Excellent quality of food (sandwiches at lunch/3 course dinner in the evening) and again, very friendly and helpful staff.
SPA: Fantastic Spa facilities (small but perfectly formed!). Staff friendly and helpful, treatments great (full body massage, manicure, pedicure). Pool and Jacuzzi temperature lovely and warm.

Would have been 5 stars if it hadn't been for the wait for the initial lunch service and the room being too warm.

Overall VERY friendly and helpful staff, lovely overall experience. My friend and I definitely plan to visit again.

The grounds include a moat and a lake, which together with the architecture of the older part of the building provide a perfect backdrop for luxury and relaxation whatever the weather.
The accommodation is excellent, whether staying in the older part of the building which is unique and full of character or the newer part which is spacious and extremely comfortable.
The spa and fitness centre provides all that is needed. The food and service in both restaurants is of a high standard.
All of the staff knowledgeable, well-trained, polite, always ready to help and enjoy their work!
I wish I could afford to live there!

Stayed with a family of 5 split up in to 2 rooms. Guest services (Sam and Tony) were incredible! VERY friendly and prompt with great info on the local area, Birmingham, hotel services, etc. Rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast quality was really nice. The breakfast manager had his hands full keeping a young and inexperienced staff in line, but with several corrections did a fine job keeping things running smoothly. The grounds are really unique. This is an old building, but they have done a really nice job keeping the quality of the in-room furnishing modern and functional. Good wifi in our rooms. Mattresses and linens provide very good support and a clean/fresh feeling - GREAT sleep had by all. Only 1 drawback we noticed...the prices for room service (food and especially beverages) are about 30-50% over what you see elsewhere for the same items. This is based on some of our other stays in Edinburgh, Fort William, Ireland, Germany, US, etc. Still, we will be back to spend more time (spa, massage, etc.) :)

Room Tip: Family rooms available. Appear to be family friendly.

Simply like the title says, this is a hop skip and a jump from home. The venue is breathtaking, the staff are wonderful - cater for all needs, but the food is dreadful!

In fairness, they cater very well for large groups - again can't fault the staff.

Gym and spa isn't too bad either.

General advice, proceed with caution!

20th wedding anniversary. Should have come back sooner. Really top class service - front of house and in main restaurant. Hotel has added a spa and fitness centre which is brilliantly sympathetic. Slightly odd mix in parts of large hotel and character property, but it works.

My Wife and my 10 year old son have just spent three days at the New Hall Hotel

Okay, firstly the Double Deluxe rooms was very comfortable and set in a beautiful surrounding garden.

Very Nice

the Bridge restaurant was Excellent and even the room service was very good

The Spa was absolutely brilliant a Jacuzzi that works no stop for a change and a steam room and
Sauna plus the Gym and all the treatments available

I took my son swimming and the pool was fantastic. He's 10 years old and wants to go back as soon as he can

The massage and facial treatment I tried was the best ever

So we can't fault the staff the facilities or the food

and to finish the breakfast was perfect

We have had a fantastic time and will be re-booking sometime soon

thank you

Room Tip: We stayed in a deluxe double which was very comfortable

We stayed at the New Hall for a couple of nights and found the whole experience fantastic. The first impression as you approach the hotel down the drive is of a lovely old building, there is a 'modern' extension in the form of a courtyard to the right of the reception but I use the term modern advisedly as it has been built so sympathetic to the original house that only the building materials give it away to be modern.

We were met by a very pleasant chap (an Irish gentleman, Tony I think - I'm useless with names) who took our bags into reception and then on to our rooms after checking in - with no hint that this was a service expecting a tip. Reception itself was very friendly and the receptionist extremely courteous (Kay/Kate - said I was useless at names but the management will know) and made us feel very welcome.

The room was one of the newer ones, in the courtyard section. It was very well appointed and extremely clean and comfortable. We only had the bottom class of room so don't know what the three classes above would have been like. We are looking to stay again but in the main part of the hotel so will hopefully find out then.

One tiny detail (which although insignificant in actual size was huge) was the small sealed pot of fresh milk put in the fridge each day. You have the choice of UHT if you are that way inclined but proper milk in your breakfast tea - marvellous!

There are two restaurants to my knowledge, we ate in the Terrace as this seemed more our sort of food, the other restaurant seemed more high end in price and the menu. Excellent food on both nights though.

Breakfast was also very good with the usual choice of continental & full English style breakfasts + a host of specials you could order if you wanted.

The waiting staff for both the evening meal and breakfast were all very courteous and attentive without being 'in your face' with gratuitous false friendliness. It gave the impression that they were genuinely interested in you having a good stay.

The beds were turned down at night and the complimentary teas & coffees restocked if used on your return that evening, so you didn't have to worry about leaving yourself a tea for the following morning. Another nice touch was a note on the bed giving the local weather forecast for the following day.

I would have no hesitation of staying here again or recommending it to anyone - including people I know who like, or are used to, a high standard of accommodation.

We didn't use the Spa & pool (maybe next time) the building was separate to the main hotel but built sympathetic to the style of the main hotel, as per the courtyard extension.

If I have to be picky at all I would say a few things:

1) The room we had could have done with air con, the windows do not open much (we were ground floor, so fair enough) and the curtains are made of such a quality heavy material that no breeze gets through - almost a victim of their own quality! We stayed in October & it wasn't particularly warm but the room was very warm at night, even with the radiator off.

2) There is no draught beer at the bar, which is also pretty small for the size of the hotel. Wasn't an issue for us but it maybe for some.

3) Didn't effect us this visit but the location of the spa & pool may possibly be an issue for some residents if the weather is bad as it is about 50 yards from the hotel in the open. Not an ideal location in a dressing gown & slippers I would imagine.

Those are honestly the only things I can think of; none of them would effect my decision to stay again but others may find this useful.

Message for the management - the two people I mentioned earlier who we had the most dealings with are a credit to your establishment.

Room Tip: Just book the hotel & you won't go far wrong!
