“Wedding Event”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2013

Hello. I just wanted to say that as a wedding supplier Marston Farm Hotel is a great Hotel to work with.
I wanted to put my comments on as Hotels not only have to look after their guests but their suppliers too.

Last night they held a wedding open evening inviting suppliers and Brides to be.. They made sure everyone was happy with free drinks and nibbles.

Its just great to know they will go the extra mile to make everyone happy ;-)

We recently travelled from London to attended our mother's 80th birthday surprise venue held at the Brook Marston Hotel, in Sutton Coldfield and stayed over for breakfast.
The venue was for 130 attendees, held on tranquil and picturesque grounds. The event was well organised and managed. It ran smoothly and on time and the staff were very accommodating, friendly and bent over backwards to look after all our guests.
After the party I retired to the bar Area, with siblings & spouses. This was very cosy and relaxing.
The bedrooms were clean and well looked after, with all the amenities one would expect, not wanting for anything.
Following morning Breakfast was set up on an amazing size oval table, which seated our mother, along with her children, their spouses, and grandchildren on one big table. The cutlery napkins etc. were neatly laid out. Also compliments go out to the hotel chefs, who cooked me a full English breakfast.
I would most definitely stay and party there again, if they'll have me back

We had booked in for one night and on arrival at about 7pm I was quite worried as there was a big, very loud wedding in the marquee in the grounds. However our room was well away from this area and we couldn't hear anything. We went to the bar and the service was excellent, they were very flexible about meals and they allowed us to choose just a starter from the main menu as we weren't hungry enough to eat a big meal. I had a really tatsy tomato and basil soup. Room was very large and spotlessly clean. Breakfast next day was excellent, good choice of fruit, yoghurts, croissants, cereals and their vegetarian breakfast is imaginative and delicious. Service was prompt and friendly.
I have a serious neck injury so I have my own pillow which I stupidly left behind in my room. Anyway, I can't thank the staff enough as we called them the next day they retrieved it and posted it back to us immediately. i am so grateful for that as it took me ages to find that one.

Excellent venue for the occasion. Quaint, homely, set in large grounds and easily reached to reach from main motorways. Service could no be faulted. Staff went out of their way to help and ensure all went to plan and every need was catered for. Would most certainly use venue again for other functions. Already planning a ladies chill out, long weekend for next summer. What a relaxing way to keep in touch with friends and family!

We stayed recently for a wedding and whilst the location is lovely and the housekeeping staff very friendly and helpful the same cannot be said of the reception staff we came into contact with both prior to our stay and during. We found the staff to be very rude and aggressive on the phone. On arrival we were given no information on check out or breakfast and we had to ask where our room was to be pointed out from behind a desk.
The breakfast was fine however a long wait. Drinks here are very overpriced.

I would urge anyone who is considering this venue to look elsewhere. What should have been a magical day for my family was ruined by rude and disorganised staff. This is a gorgeous location to host a wedding, but the venue and rooms are dated. Concidering thousands of pounds were spent on holding the wedding at marston farm hotel, they were very unaccomodating with family and friends, and the service was terrible. I was so dissapointed and upset by the attitudes of staff who were unprofessional and offensive. I wouldn't bother paying for breakfast... At 14 pounds it was very over priced for what you recieved.
Considering the wedding ceremony started at 12 they were unhelpful and unaccomodating to the guests staying over who arrived before the start. They were informed in a very blunt and cutting manner that they could not have their rooms until 2! I do not know what they expected them to do with their bags and where they could get changed!
Despite the disorganised venue and rude staff the wedding was lovely, but this was down to the people invited!

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

Although I was not on duty over the weekend your review is slightly confusing and at odds with the positive and complimentary feedback we have received from the Bride and Groom themselves .I was concerned to read of your disappointment AS my assistant manager had spoken the Bride and Groom again and we know that they were absolutely happy with their day. They even gave her a box of chocolates as a thank you.

I am sorry that you feel breakfast was not good value. Looking back at the bookings there was only 1 room that had not booked breakfast with their room rate prior to their stay. This guest chose to book their stay via a third party internet site and was not then able to take advantage of the special rates (which includes breakfast) that we had agreed with the Bride and Groom if booked directly with us .However ,they also did not take advantage of the additional opportunity to include breakfast on this third party site at the time of booking .Breakfast when booked at this time is still available at a discounted rate.

All guests that were attending the wedding that you mention in your review were informed that the usual check-in time at Marston Farm is 2pm. Given this and the time of the wedding ,a number of the guests then decided to book rooms the night prior as these were offered at a very preferential rate and allowed them to get ready for the big day without the hassle of travelling. On such an important day we do, of course, try and get all the rooms ready as early as possible and some guests who did arrive prior to the 2pm check in time were able to check in early .Unfortunately due to the specific rooming requests and room types required by some of the wedding guests we were unable to check in everyone early . Also, given that some of the rooms had only just been vacated by the previous guests , housekeeping obviously needed the time to service these before they could be reallocated . Whilst I appreciate your frustration our check in time is actually an hour earlier than most of our competitors.

Again I find your comments regarding disorganized and poor service difficult to substantiate. To the best of my knowledge all of the day’s proceedings were on time and no adverse comments were received from any other guest or indeed the Bride and Groom during the meal service. I am also aware that both my assistant manager and head housekeeper went above and beyond the normal realms of duty and service by washing certain items of guests clothing as they had become dirty and were concerned about what their appearance may look like for the rest of the day but they also loaned items of clothing to a guest whilst there items were being laundered.

Weddings are very important to us at Marston farm Hotel and obviously our aim is always to ensure that the Bride and Groom and their guests enjoy this Special Day. As you can see from previous comments on this site our commitment to this is 100%.
I would therefore be more than happy to discuss your review with you personally and you can ,of course ,contact me directly at the Hotel on 01827 872133.

Kind Regards

Anthony Palmer
