Dined alone on business and felt totally ignored for most of the evening.
It took 2 hours and 28 minutes to have a starter and main course!
I ordered a King Prawn Puri as a starter and it took 30 minutes to arrive and when it did it was ordinary prawns... The waiter offered to get one cooked but on the basis it took 30 minutes for the previous one I declined.
The waiter was cracking jokes with the tables of larger numbers of guests and seemed more interested in entertaining than serving.
The food was ok but when asked for the bill there was no attempt to ask for any desert...
Went back to hotel feeling I had wasted my evening.
I will not be returning!

Umami is now under new ownership and is called The Pavilion.
After a visit with a group of friends, this was an OK experience. The food was good, but I felt expensive for what it was. The service however was a little OTT for me, the waiter was overly exuberant and was interrupting us eating to tell us jokes (which weren't exactly funny and could have been considered racist), and he thought it was acceptable to (and with no warning) remove his false teeth at he table. There was a story behind how he came to have these teeth fitted, which he told us in detail without any of us enquiring or asking, or even wanting to actually know! Then there was the front of house guy who insisted on kissing all of the women as we left, I found it a little creepy and overfamiliar.

we first had a take away from the pavilion and it was so good we followed up with a visit the next week with some friends. It has a fantastic atmosphere from the minute you are greeted at the door by Abdul. The food is fantastic but it is a dining experience as the waiters can't do enough for you to ensure you have a good time. Special mention to the Tipton comic Abdul, the lovely waiter Cham and the owner who made the evening very special. They are holding an Elvis evening next month and unfortunately we are unable to go as we are on holiday but will definately be going back there as soon as we return. Can't praise it highly enough!

Visited The Pavilion on the 28th, what a massive disappointment , yes the Umami needed some TLC , but the ambience , feeling of the restaurant has left with the last owner , and definately the quality of the food, we was hoping at least that the chefs had stayed, but on tasting the food it was obvious something had changed in the kitchen.
The refurb looks cheap and looks and feels just like any other run of the mill indian restaurant.
As for the 'The Tipton Vampire' what a pain in the backside , yes he might be a very nice bloke , but the last thing we wanted to hear was a bad impression of del boy.
Sadly , this will be our one and only visit .

We visited the new Pavilions Indian Restaurant at Lea Marston, near Sutton Coldfield (the old Umami Indian Restaurant) for a family meal recently. We were surprised to see that the old Lea Marston Cricket Clubhouse had been refurbished by the new owners, and what an improvement it was. It now has a well-stocked bar and serves both bottled and draught beer. They also have a good selection of wines. The menu is fairly extensive with a range of unusual and unfamiliar choices on offer. Our food, when it came, was well presented and we all agreed that our meals were cooked to perfection. As for value, we were expecting to pay more than we were asked.
When we ate there, the coffees were “on the house”, but there is no guarantee that you will be afforded that pleasure, however, do try it and you will not be disappointed.
Oooh!, and as for the Tipton Vampire and his Lovely Jubberly, well, visit here and you will understand exactly what is meant……….
