“Choose somewhere else!!”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Myself, my husband and 5 yr old daughter visited this restaurant while staying locally on a short break away.

We often visit Ask and have always had a good experience but today was quite different. We arrived at 7.40pm and it took 5minutes for someone to acknowledge and seat us. We were taken to the back of the restaurant where there was atmospheric lighting (more suited for couples wanting a quieter setting).

After 10 minutes or so we ordered drinks and just main meals. We did not order starters. The drinks were served promptly, however it took until 8.50pm (over an hour) for our food to be served. The wrong meal was brought for my daughter so she had to wait a further 5mins for her meal and I ordered breaded chicken which was burnt and very crispy on the edges. My husbands carbonara pasta was a similar portion size to that of my daughters. There was no apology by the member of staff that they had got the order wrong or for the long wait for food. It is bad enough adults waiting for food but trying to explain to a hungry and tired 5yr old that food shouldn't be much longer was extremely disappointing.

It was obvious that there were not enough staff to cope with the number of customers visiting and I found the staff to be quite off-hand and selective in their service. In the time that we were in the restaurant a couple on the next table (who appeared to be locals) had a starter then main course, a glass of wine followed by glasses of water then coffees and paid their bill all before we had even finished our meal. The staff were ensuring that they were happy with each course that they had, not one member of staff asked us if we were happy with our meal.

If you are staying in the area I would however recommend visiting 'The Four Oaks' (Chef & Brewer) restaurant which is only 5 minutes from Ask by car. Staff were friendly and service prompt. Food was cooked beautifully and there was a much nicer atmosphere. A much more enjoyable experience!!

Visited Ask on 9th August 2014 2 adults 2 children for a light lunch at 1pm.

The decor was very stylish with feature walls of diffrent pictures and photos, the feature bowl on most tables was either a bowl full of lemons or tomatos which is an innovative way to be eye catching and different.

We ordered 2 children's meals,a pasta dish and a pizza dish and a garlic bread along with drinks.

The restaurant was near empty there weer approximately 3 other tables occupied but at varying stages of their meal.

As soon as we were seated we were asked if we would like any drinks on two occassions I had to ask to give us a few minutes as we were still looking at the menu.

Once the food and drinks were ordered they acme relatively quickly.

It was a nice touch that the glasses were straight from the freezer so that the drinks were lovely and cold.

The starters arrived at the table the children had the starter off the kids menu vegetable crudites and bread with a dip. The menu does not tell you what the dip is it looked like a mix of tomato ketchup and mayonnaise. The carrots were a little limp and looked as though they were ready for the bin. The garlic was very nice with just enough garlic and cheese, decent size portion very filling for a starter.

The mains one kids pizza one pasta, my daughter enjoyed the pizza as it contacined just the right amount of toppings for her, she was very pleased with it. My other daughter did not enjoy her pasta, but she can at times be a fussy eater.

The adult pasta was lovely and spicy with theright amount of temperature, the pizza was fresh and tasty, parmasan and balck pepper was offered.

the staff were attentive without been over the top.

My girls both choose chocolate ice cream as dessert form the kids menu it did have sprinkles but looked unappetising and a bit boring. My girls did eat it though as they are ice cream fans.

As part of the kids meal it comes with a small milky chocolate drink, I was initially unaware of this until them manager (male cockney sounding accent) pointed this out to me, and went off to go and get it.

The kids drinks did not materalise and we ended up leaving without them.

Overall the meal was enjoyable and very filling, however for a light lunch it was rather pricey for literally a pizza and garlic bread.

The total bill came to £47.85

Service was quick but at times a little too intense as it flet that even though the restaurant was nearly empty the staff just wanted you in and out as quickly as possible. We were in and out within an hour.

I would recommend this restaurant as the food was mainly good but staff should relax in order to allow the diners to experience the full dining experience

“Very noisy and crowded”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

The restaurant gets extremely busy and the accoustics are poor. With tables of people talking loudly all around you, it is impossible to have a conversation. Service is friendly and fast (presumably they want to get as many people through as possible) and food OK but nothing outstanding. We have tried various pastas and all have been very oily. Food is average in price. alcohol is very expensive. Overall this seems OK for a casual Italian meal but not a place for a quiet leisurely meal.

“Good food, slow service”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

We went as a party of 10 fairly early on a Wednesday evening. There weren't many other diners there at the time. The service was disappointing - we had to ask to order drinks. The food was pretty good. Again we had to ask for more drinks and the wait for these was slow. I will go back, maybe they were having an off-night.
