Description: We are an independent, family run Italian Bistro located on St Marys Street Stamford. Our menu is based around great Antipasti, had stretched pizzas, tasty pastas and also grill dishes and salads. Our ingredients are sourced from local suppliers as much as possible. Great coffees and a well stocked bar with an exclusively Italian wine list.

Precision-run restaurant. Evenings and lunchtimes. The food here is consistently good. We can recommend the spaghetti bolognese, pescadori and the lemon syllabub. They also sell half bottles of wine so if you are drinking alone you get a good amount and for a lot less money than when buying individual glasses. This is good value for money and is really good house wine.

Cloisters is a lovely family run Italian bistro that offers a refreshing alternative to the many chain restaurants that appear to be everywhere. My family have dined there many times, indeed my 87 year old mother is almost a fixture. Whether its a pizza or pasta dish there is something for everyone, all prepared with obvious love and care and all delicious. Sadie the owner will always give a warm welcome and the service is first class. Cloisters rewards those diners prepared to seek out smaller independent restaurants and deserves its growing reputation.

We live within walking distance of Stamford town centre and are quite spoiled for choice with a large variety of local restaurants. When a new one opens we usually try it (as long as it sort of looks ok) and if it's good we go back. If it's very good we go back a lot! Anyway, you build up a small repertoire of really good places of places you like to eat - the Bull & Swan for pub food, the Fat Turk for Turkish (now called the Mad Turk), The George if its warm and you want to sit in the garden, and, for Italian, it's Cloisters no doubt.

My favourite is probably the Seafood Marinara and my wife usually goes for one of the Risotto specials and Sadie the owner often recommends a new type of red wine they're trying out. As for starters the Mushrooms are probably my favourite. It really is one of those places though where you could happily eat 3 or 4 things from the starter menu and 4 or 5 (or more...) from the main course.

So, why do we like it so much and keep going back? Simple really - an excellent choice of fresh Italian dishes at reasonable prices, a very good choice of wines (can't comment on the whites as we always have red) and perhaps most importantly a consistently high level of customer service.

Sadie the owner always greets the regulars, shares a story, chats about the menu and you get the sense she is genuinely pleased to see you. The other staff are good too.

Nothing to complain and I'm sure we'll be back there soon!

The welcome was warming and although it was early evening there were still three largish groups of customers. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the experience. The food and drinks were reasonably priced and the service was excellent. The 'Before 7pm' deal is very good value. I prefer their pizzas as they are slightly smaller than the big pizza chains but the toppings are very generous. In my opinion that is the right way round. We have been twice in the past two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed both of them.
