We stayed one night in this beautiful hotel. Receptionist very friendly when we arrived and showed us to our room. She offered several times to help with our luggage. The hotel is immaculately presented. Our room, (number 3) on the ground floor was beautiful, with lots of little extra touches. The ensuite was large, with a roll top bath.

Dinner was delicious, lots of choice, well cooked and vegetarian choices too. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast in the conservatory next morning was lovely. I saw that the previous reviewer bemoaned the lack of eggs benedict, but they were definitely on the menu yesterday, together with haddock, kippers, full English; egg and soldiers, sausage or bacon sandwiches and other egg dishes that I can't remember. There was the buffet with fruit and continental breakfast too, so definitely a huge choice.

Wished we could have stayed longer and will definitely return, as well as visiting the sister hotels.

Thank you for your great review. I'm pleased breakfast was such a triumph for you as we try hard to ensure it's a very memorable experience for all our guests.

We hope to see you soon, whether it be back at the William Cecil or at one of our lovely sister properties.

We stayed three nights, arriving at midnight on the first night. Staff were very helpful, but didn't help with bags to our room, which was at the front facing the road. A little bit noisy but nothing I could consider intrusive. Breakfasts were i n the conservatory, or outside on the patio. Great for the diet conscious, but for those who enjoy their Eggs Benedict, a slight disappointment.
My wife left her sweater in the conservatory, forgot about it for 24 hours and the staff were very helpful, and had kept in the office until she asked about it.
Good Customer service. We walked into town which you can see from the front door.
A very enjoyable stay, and I would certainly stay there again.

Thank you for your review and your kind comments about the team. I'm sorry you were a little disappointed with the size of your eggs benedict. Chef and I have had a chat about this and will certainly make sure it is a hearty portion from now on. We look forward to seeing you again very soon.

Haven't got much to write, only stopped for drinks but very cosy and the staff were very friendly, well worth a visit. The bar areas have a lot of character and have sofas and very nice seating and decor

This is a beautiful Country Hotel, with great service from all staff, luxury bedrooms, fabulous breakfast, and an exiciting private dining experience.
We could not fault it. We were so looked after from our arrival until the minute we left.
Nothing is too much trouble. The decor throughout was stunning with a great bar and conservartory to enjoy a pre-dinner drink.

Thanks to all

What a great review, thank you. You're right that the conservatory is a magnificent place to enjoy an aperitif but if the weather continues to surprise us, then our stunning terrace is the perfect place to not only enjoy a drink but breakfast, lunch and dinner! Thanks again

We stopped off here on our way back from holiday, for a light lunch. The hotel is imposing, and looks almost like a stately home, so we thought that it might be expensive. We were very pleasantly surprised at the fairly modest bill. The sandwiches were great, and the place was meticulously clean, with friendly staff and prompt service.

We had a 2 day stay at The William Cecil and we were extremely pleased with the standard of the accommodation, nice big bed & good quality linen, the tea tray was brilliant with tea pigs tea bags & a cafetiere The food was very good especially the sharing platter. My husbands kipper for breakfast was one of the best he had ever had. The weather was good and so we made use of the wonderful outside terrace. Stamford is a lovely town to visit & I can highly recommend the William Cecil for its position to walk into to the town. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front of the hotel are good, the ones backing onto the main road can be a little no...

Thank your or your brilliant review. We delighted you enjoyed your stay and equally pleased to hear that you're such a fan of Stamford. We are too!

Next time you visit, you should consider staying at our little sister, The Bull & Swan, which is just 100yards down the road and has equally sumptuous bedrooms as well as a fantastic menu serving great seasonal dishes.

I stayed at the William Cecil for two nights (18th to 20th June 20140 , and it was outstanding.
My room was "Cecil" which is above the front entrance to the hotel, and the room was absolutely perfect. The windows opened wide which was welcome on a warm sunny stay, and I had absolutely no problem with traffic noise, even with both windows open wide. In fact, the bed is S-o-o comfortable that nothing disturbed me. The room was large and very charming with original furniture and a large roll -top bath in the bedroom, adjacent to very nice shower room. Everything you would expect, including free wi-fi (very welcome - I hate to be charged extra for this), fancy tea and coffee and bottled water etc.
The hotel itself is a delight - everything looked lovely and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast was fantastic, with loads of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals etc as well as all the cooked options. Service was fast and friendly. Coffee could have been a little stronger for my taste, and this was addressed by the service when mentioned.
We had a private dining room with a birthday meal for 18 guests, and it was out of this world! Lovely flowers, candles, gorgeous dining table. Food was first class in every way.
On our free day we visited Burghley House, one of our party in a wheelchair, and all was managed with great charm and no fuss.
Overall a fantastic stay, and very highly recommended!
