We have just returned from a fabulous stay at Piper House - made even more amazing by the beautiful weather we were fortunate enough to have over the weekend.
The house was perfect for our family celebration to celebrate a number of family birthdays.
A group of 17 including 6 children - age range from 6 to 75.
Katie was very helpful with any queries and helping us sort out the best way to fit the group into the house and even offered to be there to collect the supermarket delivery.
We made plenty of use of the tennis court which was amazing and also lots of walks round the small lake and the meadow.
We took our bikes over to Rutland Water and did the circular loop of 16 miles - some of us had our own bikes and some hired tandems from the cycle hire centre. Even our 6 year old made it round without too much trouble although the lunch break at the pub half way round was a welcome rest for her.
Thank you for an amazing stay - we will almost certainly be back some time in the future
Stayed at Piper House for a long weekend in February to celebrate a surprise 50th birthday with family with a total of 14 people.
What an amazing house! We were all quite gob-smacked when we arrived and spent quite a while wandering around the house unable to believe our luck at spotting such a find. There wasn't the usual squabble over bedrooms as every room was equally as good, with the added benefit of having an ensuite bathroom. My only one very small criticism would be the curtains in the rear bedroom (off the main living area), which were a little light and let in daylight quite early in the morning.
The house had great communal areas for a big group and it was nice to be able to sit together around the huge table to eat. An added benefit was the fact there was so much crockery and particularly champagne glasses, we were never short! Loved the fact there an extra fridge and bar area upstairs as well.
The owner, Katie, was really helpful, letting us in when we accidentally got locked out and came around instantly when we had a small problem and needed advice.
I would definitely recommend this house and location, we all had a fantastic time!
The house is in a beautiful location and was perfect for my birthday weekend with 11 friends. It is a rural setting but Stamford is only a short drive away. The house is very relaxing with ample space and it was great to have a large table downstairs to seat everyone and the big reception room upstairs. Katie the owner was helpful in every way, giving information walks and places to visit as well as caterers if required and quick to respond to any queries I had. We were made to feel really welcome and I would love to stay again.
We stayed at Piper House for four nights over the October half term. As everyone has commented previously Katie was extremely helpful and prompt in answering any queries both with the booking and during our stay. We were delighted to receive a jar of delicious honey made by their very own bees on arrival.
There were 14 of us (aged between 4 and 72) and plenty of space to relax, spread out and also maintain privacy as there are two separate wings (both with living-rooms and kitchens.)
The main house has a lovely large living room filled with books for all ages. It was very comfortable and the huge dining area was ideal for us to be able eat together.
The children loved the tennis courts, chickens and friendly cat. There is a pretty lake and enough to do for a few days - we visited Rutland Water, Woolsthorpe Manor, Burghley House and Stamford.
I would recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing break.
I'll be honest, I don't normally bother leaving reviews but Katie the owner of Piper House has been so personable in both the lead up and during our stay, I feel I owe to her to share my positive experience! She was so helpful with local info during our email contact, she couldn't do enough to help us. She was so welcoming with little touches like a pot of honey from her bees for us.
The house has lovely, clean comfortable rooms. It's very family friendly with lots of toys and games for kids and the rooms are very flexible with how they can be set up in terms of doubles, twins, triples or quad rooms.
The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because we felt the kitchen could have done with being a bit bigger maybe with a range cooker or something. Having said that we cooked a big meal for everyone and a cooked breakfast in the morning fairly comfortably using the extra oven in the other smaller kitchen at the other end of the house as well.
The tennis court and grounds were a big hit with us. Very well kept, a lovely area for walks around the lake and friendly chickens to say hello to. Racquets and balls provided for the tennis court went down very well, maybe if a couple of junior racquets were provided too that would be a lovely extra as everything else was very kid friendly.
We visited the Aqua Park at Rutland Water just 20 mins away so it was a great location for what we wanted. All in all a very lovely stay and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
We had a family get to together over a long weekend. Katie couldn't have been more helpful in accommodating us. Lovely rural area with Rutland water just a short drive away, but close to Stamford with all its facilities.
Will stay again if our large family doesn't grow anymore!
