“Very Informative”

The demise of Stamford Museum was a dreadful decision by the Local Authority, but full marks to the team at Stamford Library for their effort in assembling a very informative and interesting history of the town. Well worth a visit - or more than one if you're a regular visitor to Stamford.

Very clear displays and of interest for visitors to Stamford, free and easily accessible for disabled people. Only open when library is open though.

“Stamford History Loss”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2014

Finding out about Stamford's wonderful buildings and history is more difficult than it should be - and more difficult than many other towns.

Information boards are lacking or in poor condition.

Some reasonable books in the library to browse. I had planned to visit the Stamford Museum and was very disappointed to find that it had been closed!! The museum building is now empty - to save money I was told.

There is a Heritage Room at the library which I imagine is supposed to replace the museum on the cheap. Not very well done, very small - it certainly doesn't do justice to the town's history.

Hard to understand a town like Stamford which wants to encourage tourism should close its museum! There is however an excellent Museum at Peterborough which is well worth visiting.
