Stayed in "the stag" which was charming and spacious... Great bathroom, enjoyed the bath.
Bed was really comfy and the atmosphere in the whole place was really relaxing. Ate in the town in the evening which was a pleasant walk away but if the breakfast was anything to go by I would eat in the restaurant next time I stay.

We had a one night stay here at the end of November. The room was spacious and extremely comfortable. We booked in for dinner and breakfast and both meals were delicious. The service was friendly and efficient, in fact can think of no negatives at all. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Room Tip: We were in the Ram room. Very comfortable with a lovely freestanding bath in the very large bathroo...

We stayed here for my husbands birthday. Our room was called Stag and was decorated with a highland theme. It was spacious and comfortable although the heating seemed to have a mind of its own. The bed was big and comfortable, so we had a good nights sleep. There was a bit of traffic noise as there was no double glazing, but it didn't bother us too much. The bathroom was lovely, nice big bath and walk in shower. We dined in the restaurant in solitary splendour and enjoyed the food very much. We had our cheese in the bar where quite a few people were dining. The staff were charming and chatty and we will definitely come back, possibly in the summer when Burghley House will be open.

Room Tip: We liked Stag

Thank you for your kind feedback, I have addressed the issues raised about our boiler which I agree did have ‘a mind of its own’ during your stay! We have now resolved this problem. We do offer 2 for 1 admission throughout the summer for our guests with our Hidden England tickets to the house and it is well worth the visit.

Just returned from a three night stay in the greyhound room which was clean and comfy. The shower was great but would have been better if there had been a rack or something in the cubicle to put our shampoo and shower gel on. The bed was very comfy but we struggled a bit with the heating, it seemed to go from too hot to chilly and we did not seem to have any control over it. The staff were friendly and approachable, breakfast was excellent. We had issues with the food in the evening and we were told that the head chef was on holiday so maybe we were just unlucky.
We loved Stamford and will go back there and possibly to this hotel.

I’m sorry that you experienced a few issues during your recent stay. I have addressed these to make sure they don’t happen again. I have also passed on your kind comments regarding the staff and breakfast and I do hope that you return to see what we really can do very soon.

This fine old building on the high street appears to have undergone a recent refurbishment for the bedrooms are determinedly modern. Our decent-sized bedroom was decorated with 'new antiques' but the effect was fine and the level of comfort high. We liked this hotel. The only slight niggle was that the small w/c over the stairs was too small for a shower but, making a virtue out of necessity, there was a double-ended bath in the bedroom. The cold table and cooked breakfast in the bar were very good, the staff attentive. A great base to explore this beautiful English town.

Room Tip: Bedrooms at the front will get some traffic noise.

Thank you for your review. All of our room furnishings are hand made in India and I believe they work really well with the age and layout of our fabulous building and I’m happy that these were to your liking.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast here in the Bedlam Dining Room. It's one of those rooms that you can't help but imagine what stories it must have to tell.

Lunch was a real treat, the food was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. The Beetroot & horseradish soup was a real hit for a cold autumn afternoon. The beef and lamb were both cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. We couldn't decide between the meats so we were offered a mixture of both, brilliant idea. The service was excellent and the three course Sunday lunch was £21.95 per head for three courses. An excellent choices of wines were available.

I am really looking forward to our stay here on 14th December and I hope to be able to review the accommodation here also and hopefully give an excellent score.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Once upon a time there was a drinking club at Burghley House. It was founded by The 5th Earl of Exeter in 1684 and it was called The Honourable Order of Little Bedlam. It had an eclectic bunch of members: The Baptist Earl of Gainsborough was known as Greyhound, The Hon Charles Bertie was The Stag and The Earl of Denbigh was Tyger amongst other nefarious characters. They would have drunk locally brewed ales, feasted on Burghley Estate and other local produce and created total bedlam. Things have a habit of coming round and we are delighted to invite you to dine on our local produce, sup our fine ales and obviously behave very, very well! ... more   less
