“4 Star? Doubtful...”
Reviewed 13 August 2013 via mobile

Just come back from a 2 night stay and feel a little let down to be honest.

We paid £160 for the 2 nights and were told that was at a discount from the usual rate for a family room. Working out what it would've cost for a full 7 days surprised me as we recently went all inclusive at a 4 star in Ibiza for more or less another couple of hundred pounds.

The hotel was dead, and I mean dead. Not a sign of any other guests, and as for seeing any staff, forget about it. We saw two girls at breakfast and that was it apart from the two times we were fortunate enough to drop on the owner by sheer chance.

We came down for breakfast on our second day and the restaurant was empty, but our cooked breakfast appeared a minute later, so how long it had been sat there waiting for us is anybody's guess.

There is a bar, although why I have no idea, as it wasn't open once. If it's not gonna be open on a night during the carnival weekend then Christmas must be the only time they dust the pumps off for the turkey & tinsel crew. We were told to go next door to the Grosvenor for a drink, which we did, but begs the question again. Why have the bar in the Queens if it's not being used?

We reported that the window in our room would shut but not lock. We were assured that nobody would come in through it, but we were more concerned about our 5 year old falling out of it. Not that we take our eyes off him, but we'd rather not take the chance. The owner also assured us that it would be looked at the following morning. It wasn't. In fact we didn't see any staff at all during our visit, apart from (as already mentioned) the restaurant staff at breakfast.

Also, with the amount they charge for the rooms you'd expect something a bit more modern. There was no toilet roll in the bathroom, we had to run down to the public bathroom to get one for ourselves. We had to move a bed up against a wall and there was just a build up of dust and dirt that we were disgusted with. Don't know if the the cleaners have had their jobs explained to them, but unless the owner speaks Polish I would imagine they just do what they think is right. Also, there are no rooms cleaned on a Sunday apparently. But would it kill them to change the towels in the bathroom? It's a job that takes less than a minute to do. They obviously have the money to spend on them.

That parrot they keep down by the door does have a tendency to whistle early in the morning too, so you've been warned.

I'm not saying this is a bad hotel. I'm just saying that for what we paid, we expected a little more than what we received here.

We have just got back from a one night stay in the Queens Hotel. We went for my brother's 40th birthday. We were in a party of 13 all aged between 20 and 40. On our arrival Paul and Lorraine who run the hotel were extremely welcoming, they had even put 'happy 40th birthday' banners up in the bar. We were all very happy with our rooms, all comfortable and clean. The location of this hotel was perfect right across from the pleasure beach, just a 10 minute walk from the centre and the bus is every 20 mins to fantasy island which can be caught just up from the hotel. We had an amazing time throughout the day then when we came back at night Paul and Lorraine kept the bar open so we could have a drink. Paul even escorted my very drunk husband to our room. Hahaha.
The next day we went down for breakfast and was greeted by Paul who knew all of us by name which was nice because some hotels don't bother to get to know you. He then stayed chatting to us outside until our coach arrived and both him and Lorraine waved us all off.
Over all brilliant hotel, very friendly.
We will definitely be coming back to this hotel again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Room 10 is lovely.

The bed has had better days felt every spring the bedding tatty and old sheets dirty.
It in mega need of updating.shower try kept flooding had one tub of hand clearx hand wash that others have used with dirty top..very cheap nasty loo roll.Had to fight to get past six bikes that was in the hall . couldn't put clothes away draws to dirty.bar was shut was told to use next doir..after booking in no one insight.breakfast table cloth was dirty from night before blonde waitress never even said good morning just put things on the table and taking things away without even a single word ..we paid £70 for one night would rather have stayed in travel lodge better value for money cleaner freindly staff and wouldn't have been woken up by a stupid parrot at a stupid hour..Some advice this hotel is not worth the money never got any sleep the bed was mega old and bad ..

Having just spent the weekend in Skegness, I am happy to recommend the Queens as budget accommodation. On arrival I was greeted by the owners who were friendly and welcoming. There's also a big parrot to greet you as you come in and out! Downstairs the Queens has a nice bar, lounge and dining room all of which were to a good standard. It also has an enviable location – right opposite the pier and with an attractive garden for guests to enjoy. My room (15) was sadly in need of a complete refurbishment. As someone in the hotel trade it is easy to be critical, but I recognise the difficult trading conditions in which the Queens operates. It has to cope with seasonal demand, low room rates, commission to agents and coach parties that expect the world but pay nearly nothing. For many guest house owners the priority is keeping their heads above water rather than financing major refurbishment. Skegness has generally has seen better days and the Queens is on a par with most of the accommodation available.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the balcony rooms at the front.
