“Lovely stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2012

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and had a very enjoyable break. Julie and all her staff were attentive to my every need, and were thoroughly professional at all times, whilst also making every effort to provide the extra personal touches that made me feel most welcome. I had a lovely room overlooking the sea, with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, and all the luxury I had hoped for, including a hostess tray full of 'goodies', plus a wide range of toiletries and fluffy towels to enhance the experience of the spacious bathroom. Breakfast was plentiful and well presented, and it was a nice bonus not to have to be up too early to enjoy it. Having stayed in the area before, I was aware that the hotel had been closed for some time, but the new owners have clearly gone out of their way to restore it to a very high standard, particularly the pool area which was an added extra not often available in hotels of this size. Parking in front of the hotel was also an advantage, and the location in a quiet cul de sac within walking distance of the town centre was perfect. All in all, I felt that my stay was good value and I intend to return again soon.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel enjoy fine views of the sea

had a short break in skegness and chose the crawford as a base .the hosts are wonderful and can not do enough for you .on arrival asked mark if he reccomended an indian restauraunt ,not only did he reccomend one he went personally and booked our table. this was next door attached to the big hotel and is called bollywood, where we had one of the best meals we have had in a long time. back to the crawford , we booked the cheapest room as we use rooms as a bed and shower base only ,our room was small ,but had all the facilities reqd ,was clean and had a comfy bed ,which is all we ask. there were more luxurious rooms and the hotel was full when we were there so to us that speaks for itself. there is a super kidney shaped swimming pool jaccuzi and sauna at the rear of the hotel which we used a couple of times ,the changing facilities are under transition so you change in the loos (no problem) .the licenced premesis are really well designed and i must say they keep an excellent pint of stella . the food is of a good standard ,we turned up at the peak period for breakfast and although the waitress was under pressure ,she coped reasonably well . all in all if i was returning to skeggy i would not hesitate to book the crawford again (ps dont tell them what you do for a living --thats a joke that only julie will understand-excellent view from the loft!!!! )

Room Tip: the rooms vary on price and standard , so it depends what your needs are , if i was there for a week...

We got a phone call, couple of hours after booking on line. The owner told us the room we'd booked (£130, "the best one") wasn't really available and that the online agency had made a mistake.
But we could have the second best room (£120) - and then we got some mixed up story about her friend not being able to have it.
The alarm bells should have started - but we'd never visited Skegness before and it was just for a night.
On arrival, we appreciated the position of the hotel at one end of the promenade meant it was away from some of the seaside and road noise. But the surrounding run-down guest houses and flats are not attractive. Across the road is some kind of abandoned open land, then a car park - and then the sea.
It was never quite clear whether the hotel door was supposed to be open. I think there's a sign asking guests to ensure that it's closed. But it isn't.
Inside the small entrance there was an old ice cream machine, an unused cola machine, a pile of unopened parcels of leaflets and a suit of armour.
Not attractive.
After that, the decor goes down hill. Upstairs is dim and dingy: a large patterned carpet, amateur painted doors with locks that have been broke and changed too often. It's not dirty - but it's impossible to make it look clean.
As we were shown to the room we were told the hotel was no smoking. We said we didn't smoke. But the owner then told us how she could tell if guests were smoking even if they denied it - and she pointed out a room next to ours where this had happened recently.
As we entered the room the owner said there was supposed to be an armchair but she didn't know where it was. It wasn't an apology. The chair never appeared.
She we were told that someone had complained about the light waking them up in the mornings. It's not the curtains, she said, it's the fault of the light reflecting off the sea.
It is actually the curtains, they're unlined and paper thin. And like the previous guest we were woken at dawn.
Like the rest of the hotel the room is
furnished with the kind of collection a young married couple might use in their spare bedroom. Except they don't charge £120 per night.
But there is a giant TV - which dominates the room.
However, we would have settled for a smaller one in return for a better pair of curtains.
Or an extractor fan in the bathroom.
Or a bathroom door that would open without banging into the bed.
Or maybe a bathroom floor that wasn't covered in spilled paint.
The room did have a giant, wooden-framed painted bed which one continually and painfully banged into.
And around the feet of the dressing table was a collection of wires and four-way power extensions.
The owners describes the Crawford as "boutique hotel" but it is, in fact, a badly organised guest house which charges £120 for bed & breakfast.
Downstairs there's a bar, painted red and black - again with a giant tv. And again there was piles of stuff on a small dance floor - which appeared to be in semi-permanent storage.
During our 15 hour stay I was asked if I was just checking by the same lad, three times. The house didn't appear to be that busy.
Breakfast was slow and charmless but largely memorable for the Shaking Stevens record played through broken speakers. Oh, and the sight of the owner spraying a giant aerosol around the kitchen.
I've read other reviews of this house and I have to say, either folk have got some very odd ideas about what makes a good hotel - or the owners have some very loyal friends.
I'm sure all those involved are lovely but this is one of the least attractive places in which I have ever stayed, in any country.

As promised, the hotel had ample parking outside the hotel and we were able to check in earlier than the 2pm standard. Julie was a lovely host and although rushed off her feet, took care of all our needs. Our room was on the small side, but still a good value room. We didn't get any good views out the window as the room faced the back of the hotel, but despite this - top marks for cleanliness and room catered for all basic amenities.

We had 24 hour access, and as standard requested to keep the noise down if coming back late so we didn't disturb the other guests. We used the Jacuzzi and swimming pool in the evening which was great for unwinding after a day of adventure.

Next day at breakfast, I was disappointed that apart from a full english breakfast there was no other hot breakfast offer to cater for vegetarians but the waitress and chef went out of their way to provide alternatives which we declined.

Julie checked us out and walked us to the door, and we left 100% satisfied customers!

We just stayed here for one night, and it was a very pleasant relaxed experience. We had a lovely room which had a balcony which overlooked the sea. Mark and Julie were very kind and made us feel welcome. The hotel is very near to Skegness town, and there is plenty of free parking outside the hotel. I would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Skegness.

The hosts Mark and Julie were wonderful people, hotel is still undergoing refurbishment in time I am sure it will be amazing, our room was on the small side and the shower did'nt work but once we told Julie she accomadated us by using a bathroom on another floor, she would have changed our room but the hotel was fully booked.
Breakfast was very good and the young lady sinead serving breakfast was delightful and very helpful. I would have no hesitation in recomending this hotel and will return again.
