We stayed in the hotel in order to visit family in the area. The reception area, bar and lobby were nice, but the state of repair of the room itself was poor. The bed tilted at an angle because one of the castors was broken and the room's chair was also broken. The bathroom was not very clean and the ceiling was water stained from a previous leak. It was also quite difficult to get the door open because the keycard lock did not work properly. The sheets and towels were clean.

The location of the hotel is good, it's less than ten minutes walk along the front to the clocktower in the town centre. We were not bothered with noise at all. The breakfast was fine the next morning with cereals and a cooked breakfast available. It also has a nice garden at the back with picnic tables.

Tips:
Take your own shower soap, the hotel provides a small sachet and bars of soap.

We aren't great fans of the Skegness area but annually visit friends who leave near. They recommended the bistro and advised we book a room as it had been refurbed recently. After reading several recent reviews I wasn't expecting much but then £85 for a sea view wasn't a bad price. When we arrived we found the hotel warm and inviting, and the staff friendly and helpful. Our room was one of those with the 'shared tatty balcony' as mentioned in previous reviews and yes it was shared and it was a bit on the tatty side but it had nice views and during our stay (Saturday/Sunday) no one else ventured out, so we had the tatty balcony over looking the sea to ourselves. The room itself I thought was charming. No it wasn't decoratively speaking pristine but it was clean and warm, with immaculate bed linen and new carpet, It had everything we needed for a one night stay. My only gripe was the noise, from the 21st birthday party which finished around 12pm then to the stag party coming back lairy and late, about 2am! Breakfast was excellent, self serve english and continental, no complaints.
I'd recommend this hotel for short breaks.

First of all lets get this straight this is no 5 star hotel, but it doesnt claim to be! On arrival the receptionist was friendly and helpful, asked if we would like a help with our luggage. Our room was large, clean, massive bed and plenty of space for our travel cot and 10 month old baby to crawl around. The bathroom wasnt great, mould was above the shower, the toilet seat wouldnt stay up by itself when i had a wee and the overall finish was quite poor, but hey ho i didnt intend to spend my night in the bathroom! We ate in the Bollywood restaurant, friendly service and good quality food, Breakfast in the morning included Cereal, Toast, Full English as much as you can eat and of good quality. I would be happy to visit this hotel again and probably will do so in the future.

Arrived, room was ok, asked for seaview was more like treeview as we asked for seaview balcony room but we got a dirty , tatty terrace which was shared with about 6 rooms & had tatty , dirty chairs scatted on it.
We herd noise enough to keep us awake during the night of doors slamming & people talking.
The dining room is a miss match of tables & chairs, the decore is some kind of ugly with weird coloured paints, and it is so crammed in that you have to squeeze past chairs, tables & other residents to get to your table with hot food which is a hazard.
The bollywood resturant which we were unfortunate enough to visit was terrible & overly exspensive for what little we had. The food was dry & tasteless which is surprising as it was Indian food, also we were kept waiting for our pre booked table as staff were walking past us & it was'nt untill we asked about our table that we were shown to it.
The carpark is horrendous with pothloes & crowded. The gardens are looking tatty with full bins, cigarette ends scatterd everywhere, & decapitated statues which are not meant to be & don't get me started on about the tatty tables & chars out there!
The breakfast was interesting i guess , it was self service which was more like a smash a & grab with watery srambled eggs ect & poor english speeking staff who couldn't ubderstand what a de caff coffee was & like i said before too overcrowded.
This place is definatly not for you if you want a romantic break, family holiday or just to get away from it all as it's more like a nursing home,as it looks like one , run like one and has the cliantel of one basically. Definatly NOT for under 65's
One last thing, this place is going down hill fast as we stayed here 13 months ago and it was no where near as bad although we did'nt eat at the Bollywood resturant that time.

As all the other reviews, staff were short handed; travelling with my 11 y.o. son, our first room booked was dirty and the furniture was falling apart. We were then moved to the 4th floor, a small twin also with a good ocean view, however, the bathroom smelled too bad to even contemplate sleeping in the room. Finally, we were moved again to a somewhat acceptable room; however, the shower (no bath) would fluctuate hot/cold and was hard to take a shower...The carpets have lumps under them and cigarette burns, tired furniture and the rooms all need refurbishment. Management was disconcerned about complaints but did offer the option to check out early. Breakfast consisted of runny scrambled eggs and old burnt sausages. The hotel is also a very long trek from the major attractions and pleasure beach. Lastly, early in the morning other residents awake people when the depart as the doors to the rooms slam shut disturbing other visitiors. Not a place to get any peace and apparently no hospitality was offered to guests; not to mention the uncleanliness and inadequate size of the room(s).

This was the second time that we booked as a group at this hotel. It was for an eightieth birthday party with a group ranging from almost two through teenagers and up to eighty five. We had such a good time last time that we booked again. We were not dissapointed. The staff were very helpful, the food was good, the rooms were good and we had a great time. We had a slight problem with a room for one of our party (every family has a fully paid grumbler they also grumbled last time!) which was sorted out quickly and efficiently. What more could be asked for.
Thank you The Royal Renaissance

I visited this hotel on February the 14th for the special valentines evening meal with a one night stay overnight. We were blown away by the quality of the food served in the restaurant. They went out of their way to find something else i liked other than the 'set' menu which was being served that evening. Food was cooked to perfection and the servings were very generous.
The bedroom had the biggest bed i've ever seen and the linen was pristine. One small niggle was the fluctuating shower temperature.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone - the reviews i read put me off booking slightly but i am glad i went and found out for myself. It won't let you down.
The atmosphere is very relaxing.... perfect valentine evening.
I will be going back for more!
