I think the Carlton Park Hotel places itself as the best in Rotherham. Which might not be so much, Unless you can get a good deal. A couple of years ago we held my mother's 90th birthday party at the hotel and they really did turn out a good evening for us. Having said that, the spa in the afternoon was full of drunken women, And the hotel foyer on a Saturday night was not a pleasant place to be.

This time it's a quick Monday night booking on a visit to see my mother. I booked late, And it does seem that unlike the budget hotels, the later you book the better deal you might get at the Carlotn Park if they have rooms available. It's located a little bit out of town, But then if you look at the centre of Rotherham that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's all a little bit stuck in the 1980s, right down to the fact that the in room entertainment extra is a set of DVDs that can be loaned from reception. My room is a twin room on the ground floor, a very short walk from reception, but obviously a walk that the decorator hasn't made for quite a few years. It's got everything you'd want in terms of kettle, dim lighting, and horrendous patterned carpets, and sheets, so even the sleeping experience is a little bit retro.

At breakfast the next morning, It's a quiet affair, So quiet that nobody has obviously changed the fried eggs for several hours, and they are looking a little bit sad. Great sausages though.

The reason I think the Carlton Park gets by is that by booking late, my deal with breakfast was £56 and you'd be hard pressed to get that even in one of the better designed, more spacious budget hotels. So while the Carlton Park is not the Rotherham Savoy that it thinks it is, it's worth it on a deal

Thank you for your comments following your stay at the Carlton Park. Rates are adjusted in correlation with how busy the hotel is and it is rare that the hotel discounts at the last minute. The Monday of your stay must have been quiet and so you benefited from a great price. In-room facilities are extensive and most people, especially those staying away from home for periods of time, welcome the chance to watch DVD's in their room in the evening. This facility is popular with children staying at the weekend. We also offer free WiFi, Happy Hour, Sky Sports in all bedrooms and free access to the Carlton Park Spa. These are offered in line with our 'home from home' ethos which runs through all aspects of the hotel. As I have stated previously on these pages, the hotel is styled traditionally, in contrast to your typical minimalist, contemporary hotel; giving a lavish, rather than stark feel. We do not claim to be 'Rotherham Savoy' but we do try hard to make the hotel as friendly and as comfortable as possible. We hope that you will choose the Carlton Park Hotel for your next visit to South Yorkshire.

just returned from a 2 night Superbreak deal at this hotel. For £70 each we got 2 nights B&B, one dinner and Chatsworth tickets. So on that basis things were very good value and positive

Hotel - looks recently refurbished. Room nice, very clean and brand new bathroom. Quiet room (309) overlooking the playing fields at side of the hotel. There is a small, unsupervised pool, jacuzzi, gym and steam room area which was very nice.

Food - very good. 'Dinner' in the deal was £20 each - so didn't quite run to 2 courses - mains were about £15 - £18 each. Starts £5 - £6 and puds the same. The food was very good, great sized portions and the bluecheese cheesecake dessert was heavenly. Breakfast again very good.

Location - on main residential road about 5 minutes from M1, so easy to find and plenty of parking. About 15 - 20 min walk into town centre, which we did on the Saturday morning. Worth doing if you have a few hours to kill. But if you don't see Rotherham centre, then please don't think you have missed out on anything ! LOL.

Staff - very helpful and friendly.

Now here is where I am going to say a few things on the down side... and why I said 'depends what you are looking for !

This hotel, certainly at weekends, has lots of 'themed evenings, tribute acts, dinner and disco and the like. So the friday we arrived it was an '80s night. We were going to the bar for a pre-dinner drink to find it packed with 20 somethings attending the tribute night. So decided to go straight to dinner. The event was held in a large suite directly opposite to where we had to eat - the door was open, the music thumping and a constant stream of people up and down the corridoe to the bar. The room we were eating, seemed to have another room / event going on at the far side, so again a slightly smaller stream of people traispsing through there. There was only us and later another couple eating in here, so not a great atmosphere.

Saturday we decided to eat in the Carlton Bar, which is a pub directly attached to the hotel. Got there about 6.30 on the Saturday to find a 'Ladies Night' was being held. That bar was FULL of women and a loud hen party. But food was good and prices reasonable. We decided not to stay in there after dinner, but went back to our rooms and watched TV.

So if you want a romantic break - don't go here at weekends. But if you want a cheap and cheerful deal, then yes, its fine.

Room Tip: Chose a room on the top floor (3) and to the side and back of the building. You want to be as far from the bar / disco areas as possible. We were in 309 and didn't hear a thing

Thank you so much for your very thorough review of your stay at the hotel. I'm delighted that you enjoyed our facilities and found time to experience the restaurant, bar and spa as well as Rotherham town centre. We are a very popular hotel for functions, especially on a weekend. We host over 70 weddings per year as well as our own busy Calendar of Events. Each function room does have its own bar but I appreciate that guests sometimes spill over into the public Carlton Bar. I hope that the lively atmosphere didn't impact upon your stay too much and look forward to seeing you again at the hotel.

We stayed here for 3 days, 2 nights. The room was clean, tidy and faced the playing field which meant is was quiet. Hotel facilities were good, including the spa and pool area. The restaurant service was good and quality meals, the steaks were exceptional. Drinks were a little pricey but I suppose normal for a hotel.
Overall good value for the money paid, only criticisms I have is that:-
a) The heavy bedroom doors slam causing a loud banging noise and vibration throughout the floor.
b) Numerous dead flies were left on the sun room window sill over the two days when we had breakfast there. With the windows being open and windy, it would be quiet easy for any of these flies to land in your breakfast plate.

It is a short walk from the hotel into Rotherham town centre, however, there are very little places of interest to visit, disappointed.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floors and facing the playing field are generally quiet.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at the Carlton Park with the Trip Advisor community. I'm pleased that you had a pleasant stay and enjoyed yourself. Rotherham's attractions can take some finding but they do exist! Next time our staff will be more than happy to advise you on the best way to spend your time with us. We are within 45 minutes of some stunning attractions including Magna Science Adventure Centre, Sheffield City Centre, Wentworth Woodhouse, Chatsworth House, Brodsworth Hall as well as, more locally, Clifton Park. Historic Boston Castle provides a pleasant walk in the evening and is only a ten minute walk away. We hope to see you again soon.

Took my wife for a meal and overnight stay with a group of friends as part of her birthday celebrations. The staff couldn't have been any nicer. The food was excellent including the breakfast . The room was clean and well equipped. Will certainly be staying there again.

what a relaxing couple of days in Rotherham. Hotel was spotless and the early book-in gave us time for a swim before dinner. the restaurant was far out of our pocket but a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk down hill to Wetherspoons was no hassle and free parking after 6pm in the town. plenty of parking at the hotel and the only downside was the WIFI. the connection was not strong enough in the room even though we were so close to the reception area. the room was quiet and we were pleased there was no fan in the bathroom. good shower and soft towels. the pool and gym area is great with towels provided. the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast buffet was a lot of choices but was obviously kept warm making the eggs and sausages a little over cooked, and they do get rubbery. IT could have been hotter. There did seem plenty of staff around. the coffee had been sitting on the warmer for some time, if the tea was in a pot then why not the coffee. We would love to come back to explore more of Rotherham and stay at the Carlton Park.

Room Tip: as we only saw the ground floor room we were in I cant say anything about the others, ours was near reception and the pool but very quiet and cool.
