Well, what can I say. I never thought I would get to see inside this amazing and beautiful stately home. The Fitzwilliam tour was money well spent, the rooms visited (some still in a great need of repair) were interesting and the guide was informative. I really hope the renovations continue so that this fabulous grand old house can truly get on the tourist map and become the crown jewel tourist attraction for not just South Yorkshire but the north of England as it so deserves.

Biggest private house in the UK, longest facade in Western Europe, home to a prime minister, home to the lover of JFK's sister, near Rotherham??? Don't be ridiculous, that can't be right. Well it is. I don't even think the owners understand how important this place is. Go see it now before it sinks or before it get's turned into a major attraction/hotel full of Asian tourists and it loses it's mystery.

What a wonderful house, well worth a visit. We arrived a little early for the 11am tour so we could enjoy a coffee in the cafe before we started. An excellent cup served in china tea cups and saucers. Robert, our guide together with a volunteer (sorry I have forgotten her name) took us round this interesting house giving us a lovely insight into the family history and the history of the house. It is a huge place although you only get to see a small part of it, depending on the tour you take. It will take years to complete but the plans the owner has will be well worth the wait. The enormous cost of restoring and hopefully acquiring (probably on loan) the original paintings and furniture will just bring this house back to life. It is well worth a visit and we will be returning in the summer for the longer tour which includes the garden. Thank you for a great tour Robert and volunteer, your knowledge and wit helped make this tour and will ensure we return.

Went on a tour of the house, something I'd wanted to do for a long time ... Really enjoyed looking round and hearing the history. Good value but I would liked to have seen more, however, I think more recent tours do now include more.
