Absolutely nothing to dislike about this play, funny as you like and with a great cast and set you could not want more. Fabulous night out.

“Excellent theatre with wide range of shows”
Reviewed 23 December 2011

This theatre is always striving for something new and is never short of interesting plays. Their rep company is second to none and are all superb. We have never seen a bad play done by the rep and the best was definitely Romeo and Juliet with the Argentinian tango - great!

“One of the best Rep Theatres in the Country”
Reviewed 14 May 2010

Colchester Mercury has had a chequered reputation in the past: Founded in 1946 as Colchester Repertory Theatre, it moved into a purpose built theatre twenty five years ago set against Colchesters ancient Roman Wall and under the shadow of the iconic water tower "Jumbo".
The current Artistic Director has transformed the company from a struggling desperately impoverished venue specialising in easy comedies, murder mysteries, cheap musicals and so on to an ambitious, forward looking company who refuse to compromise on quality and production standards, which is reflected in reasonable audience numbers and a regular company of talented loyal actors. Here you can see a huge range of stuff from the great classics, little-known but well worth reviving masterpieces, West End successes, new pays and commissions ,as well as the obligatory Shakespeare, panto and the musical. On top of this they are host to incoming companies with everything from contemporary dance and classical opera to 'Allo 'Allo and Dads Army. They have a huge community output as well, with local performance groups attached to and mentored by the company such as a disabled actors group and a third age company. Well worth asking your hotel whats on this week..
