Went to the Mercury to see Ben - as Michael Jackson. Booked in Sept 2012 as other half is a MJ fan and this show was advertised as brilliant and amazing.
The theatre is great. Superb seats, good view of stage and friendly helpful staff.
The show however was poor - a second rate MJ tribute act. Have seen much better at a cheaper price.
This was a shame as we have seen lots of good shows at the Mercury in the past.
Avoid this act but do visit the theatre and enjoy a good play.

We watched Garage Band in the Studio at the Mercury Theatre. The studio is a small performance space within the Mercury and suited this play very much. This is one of the best plays we have ever seen.

The Mercury is a lovely theatre, with all the facilities you would expect from a theatre - bar, restaurant.

Went to the panto here with my 6 year old son & husband, not been for years. Well organised during the interval for ice cream sales etc, not expensive either & really nice, tasty ice cream too.Easy to exit during performance for the usual kid style" I need a wee" .

I had never been to this theatre before so was really surprised when we walked in to see how small it is. We were seven rows from the front but it felt too close to the stage which was tiny and had no stage dressing such as stage curtains which had the impact of it not feeling like a theatre at all. There is no need for microphones as no matter where you sit you are close enough to hear every word, which again meant it didn't feel like a normal theatre. The seating was tiered well, seating comfortable and overall it was clean. There were no queues and overall it was fine and dandy for a small playhouse type theatre.
The play was the Robert Tressell two man show of the "Ragged Trousered philanthropists" The players worked hard but sadly it was three hours of my life I will never get back, but would like to!

We went to see the touring production of "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show" as our first visit to the Mercury for many years.
The production was exactly as expected: quirky and probably completely alien to anyone not having experienced black American culture of the 70s. A few winceable moments, but fun and well played by the mostly British cast, keeping up their American accents. Only 50% of seats filled, though.
The theatre is an easy night out. Parking across the road is easy and £4-ish; staff are friendly and the prices reasonable. The bar and cafe' / restaurant are plain but pleasant and again, reasonably priced. Check out the Mercury's season - they have some interesting productions coming up, though no big names involved.
