“Chosen production”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

Betty Blue Eyes - a great production by all and especially Betty, the pig who was so life-like and winsome.

“An evening of fun”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

Three of us went to the March 31st evening performance, expecting no more than to be pleasantly diverted.
The show was a riot - fast paced, expertly performed and well presented. The minimalist set was versatile and up to the challenge of presenting both interiors and exteriors.
The plot is a paper-thin tale of skullduggery during the postwar rationing era. There were opportunities for some seriously rascally characters - excellently realised in the form of a meat inspector and a conniving butcher, along with a group of exploitative councillors.
The bulk of the cast were required to cover several roles, although I rarely detected it. The principals were completely convincing (decent, naive husband; scheming social-climbing wife) and there was a superb comedy ma-in-law. Most important, the players seemed to be loving every minute of the show - an enthusiasm they communicated to a sell-out Monday night audience. Go.

“Betty Blue Eyes - fantastic!”
Reviewed 4 April 2014 via mobile

I have been visiting the Mercury since I was a child (over 35 years) and have never been disappointed but this was one of the best shows I have ever seen there, we could not fault it, every actor was brilliant, extremely well cast, they could all sing and dance and it truly was a great night out. Please go and see it, you won't be disappointed!

“Good evening out”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

I made reservations to have pre show dinner at the on site restaurant. You can chose from a set price menu which is a very reasonable £14.95 for 3 courses but a little limited, or they have more dishes on a a la carte menu. We chose from the set menu to give it a try. The decor is a bit spartan but comfortable enough & the staff are very pleasant & friendly. Between us we had pate, soup, spare ribs & chocolate orange sponge pudding. All very nice & well presented. The ribs weren't the most tender I've ever had but tender enough & tasty. The whole meal was very satisfying and good value for money & we'd do this again.
Booking for the theatre is easy, on line booking & picking the tickets up in the foyer went without a hitch. It's a nice comfortable theatre with good views from everywhere, no annoying posts to avoid. We were seeing Betty Blue Eyes, a rather silly but amusing & enjoyable musical. There was some fine acting & great singing, plus the antics with the pig were laugh out loud funny.
So all in all a good evening out & we're looking forward to our next outing to The Mercury.
It's worth noting that there are stairs to access your seats & I didn't notice any lifts but I understand they have one, so check with the theatre direct if you have any mobility issues.
