Very much enjoyed my visit to the museum, but was disappointed to see the model of artefacts representing the different historical periods was no longer present. I always thought this was a good way of helping children in their understanding of chronology, so important in the new History curriculum.

We were in Colchester for the weekend, to enjoy some downtime and of course we had to visit the castle. £7.50 is quite a bit to pay but once in you realise why, as there has been so much refurbishment and many interactive displays which are popular with children...We especially enjoyed watching a little boy on the chariot...gave us a giggle and he was certainly enjoying his laps!

One suggestion would be to have postcards in the shop. I know postcards are a dying trend but some of us still love them! Also, I would advertise the dungeon area more...we stumbled on it by accident following signs to the loo! it would be a shame if children missed out on the stocks.

We arrived today to visit. We left again without visiting. £7.50 each and no concession for pensioners. A big thumbs down from us.

Really good coverage of Colchester from Roman times up to the recent past. Plenty of clothes for kids to dress up like Romans/ Normans etc. Plenty to look at and lots of variety of periods. Could have had a bit more about Queen Boudicca? The Park outside the castle is really lovely too with plenty of childrens playgrounds and boating lakes/ good ice creams etc. Nice spot for a picnic under the trees.

Very impressive building, lots of interesting finds in it. If you have time, do the extra tour as you get to see parts of the building you won't normally, down in the cellars and up on the roof. Very interesting place and a beautiful park all around it.
